Growing up was no easy task for Coach Prime. Especially with the conditions he grew up amidst, Prime saw a ton of struggles that defined the very being of who he is today. Now, as he dons the cap of being the best father to his five children, is his past coming in his way of parenting? At least Jason Whitlock thinks so, with his very strong opinion that she shared on his recent episode of ‘Scoop’.
Sanders is not new to Whitlock’s criticism. However, commenting on something very personal to Deion Sanders was a huge card that Whitlock has played. The analyst believes that Sanders’s ‘helicopter parenting’, a parenting style where parents are excessively involved in and controlling their children’s lives, for Shedeur Sanders might prove to be harmful to his QB son in the long run.

Whitlock is not pleased with Deion Sanders’ parenting style

Looking at it from Whitlock’s perspective, Coach Prime is all over Shedeur’s career. From the game days to the off-season, Deion Sanders is overlooking almost every aspect of his son’s life. However, that does not seem like something problematic for the Buffs QB. Ironically, being Coach Prime’s son comes with its own advantages, like flexing a $70,000 watch every time he makes a pivotal move on the field, or driving a $1.3 million Mercedes Maybach. Not to mention the $5.9 million NIL valuation.
However, this was just the material part. More than this, the Sanders kids get a loving dad, along with a coach who is not afraid to point out their mistakes and make them learn from them. This luxury was not something Coach Prime had while growing up. Deion Sanders’ biological father was a drug addict, while his stepfather was a victim of alcoholism. This is precisely why Sanders religiously repels drugs and alcohol. He knows the ending isn’t pleasing.
After making the major statement, Whitlock made a comparison between Deion Sanders and Marv Marinovich. Marinovich is known for his life story- or more particularly his over-indulgence in his QB son Todd’s life, which went horribly wrong.

“Deion and Shedeur have daddy issues,” opined Whitlock. “Deion has daddy issues from his own upbringing. Dion Sanders’ helicopter parenting doing everything in his power to build something around Shedeur, his son who’s a quarterback we’ve seen this before. Deion Sanders is modern-day Marv Marinovich.”
