It’s a new season and Shedeur Sanders is set to receive the best protection! Looking at Colorado’s play last season, the O-line was messed up wherein they failed to protect their signal caller. A lot of their failure can be attributed to their lack of protection for Deion Sanders’ youngest son who despite the adversity, secured 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns.

How about raising that record to leave last season’s overall 4-8 record in the dust? The Buffs have a plan and that plan involves running the ball to protect the play caller. True, Deion Sanders revamped the offense this offseason by bringing in some of the best in the nation such as 5-star No. 1 OT Jordan Seaton and big tough Kahlil Benson, among others. Everyone on the team has a mission and that’s to protect Shedeur.

As is seen from the YouTube episode on DNVR Buffs Podcast on August 3, Pat Shurmur’s verdict may be straightforward but it is what it is. With the Buffs completing five days of fall camp practice, the Buffs OC drops his thoughts on the offense. He said, “I feel like we need to be able to run the ball… We are going to run the ball, we need to protect the passer better, just generally speaking, that’s just what I like to call common sense football.”

For Shurmur, it’s all about securing the ball collectively to advance it and ensure wins. The Buffs learned a tough lesson last year when Shedeur Sanders became the top target, getting sacked for a whopping 52 times. Taking that mistake into account, this season is loaded with a powerful offense as both new and existing players are pumped with a new sense of purpose to protect their QB with the zeal to win. This applies not only to the offensive linemen but the RB room also has a plan.

Shedeur Sanders is promised more safety and comfort

The O-line has vowed to protect Shedeur in the 2024 season so that Colorado doesn’t have to suffer the same fate. The running backs room has a similar mission to do the same. As of now, the position is filled with talented players whom Charlie Offerdahl is expected to lead this season. As RB coach Gary Harrell previously said on July 30, “Charlie, he earned it. He deserves it. He’ll be the guy that lead the rest.”

Offerdahl is joined by other prominent RBs including true freshman Micah Welch, Dallan Hayden, and Isaiah Augustave. But as Harrell said, “I’m gonna give them the opportunity. They have to make sure they make Shedeur feel comfortable with them in the game.” With a lot of effort put into positioning Shedeur for a better performance, this year could be a major turn around for the Buffs as they head into the 2024 season as a new member to the Big 12.
