Coach Prime didn’t just become a coach sensation overnight. His prolific NFL playing career of 14 seasons has added much depth to his hype. The result of his hard work during his playing career is testified by his former Atlanta Falcons teammates.

One of the reasons why Deion Sanders is getting lots of willing coaches and players is because of his strong work ethic and confidence even during his time in Atlanta. This is where he built the foundation of his relationship with his new WR coach. See what Mike Pritchard says of their relationship that has built over the years. 

Mike Pritchard reveals the relationship between Deion Sanders and Jason Phillips

Deion Sanders didn’t just hire Jason Phillips for his rich coaching resume. Coach Prime’s former Falcons teammate Mike Pritchard appeared on a YouTube episode on DNVR Sports to talk about Phillips during their time in Atlanta. Pritchard said of the former WR who is presently the Buffs WR coach, “His knowledge for the game in that position is off the charts I believe. But he got after Deion in practice.” 

Pritchard added that while everybody looked up to Deion Sanders during his NFL days, Phillips went the extra mile in fortifying their bond with his competitive spirit. “He would just get after Deion and push him and I think that’s where their relationship started fromDeion wants dogs and Jay Phil is a dog.” It’s interesting to see how their relationship developed over the years.

Jason Phillips and Deion Sanders bonded over the years 

Colorado’s offensive coaching roster is already in place with Jason Phillips taking the role as the WR coach. But his hiring isn’t random because Deion Sanders has known him well since their time in Atlanta for three seasons where he caught 49 passes for 578 yards and two TDs. The duo didn’t just play together, they even coached together at Jackson State in 2021.

While serving as the WR coach and co-offensive coordinator role under Coach Prime at Jackson State, three of his wideouts finished the season with 500+ receiving yards while two of them secured seven+ TD catches. The Tigers averaged 27.54 points per game under freshman QB Shedeur Sanders. So, it’s not surprising why Deion Sanders wants him back in the WR room as he prepares to salvage the Buffs’ reputation in 2024.
