Is Deion Sanders' recruitment of Julian Lewis a wake-up call for the underperforming CU Buffs players?

“Do we need Ju Ju when we have somebody in-house for the same position?” is the question that is storming Colorado. While JuJu’s 5-star elite status is an answer enough for this, the DNVR Buffs host had another reason for it, one that anyone can’t deny. Coach Prime does not need to answer them, and can continue focusing on his ‘We want Ju Ju’ campaign, as the DNVR Buffs hosts RK and Jake, define what ‘recruiting’ is for the questioners.

“Never ever, ever let the quality of one player on your roster preclude you from recruiting another player at that position. Said it once, and will say it a million times. The coach’s job is to recruit a player better than the players on the roster. Players on the roster’s job is to make those coaches wrong. Rinse and repeat,” said the hosts of the DNVR Buffs podcast, reminding the Buffs players how recruitment works, who were vouching for Dominiq Ponder to get the starting position instead of bringing in Julian Lewis for it.

Although Ponder is a great fit for the Buffs team as the 6-5, 18 pound 3-star QB freshman comes in coming in with his experience from Miami Carol City, relying only on him as a QB prospect would hardly ever align with the recruiting strategy Coach Prime is going in for this season. Since the beginning, Deion Sanders and Co. have been focusing on adding depth to their roster, if things go left this season like they did in the last. If Julian Lewis makes his much-awaited decision in CU’s favor, then it will be a dream come true situation for Deion Sanders and Co.

All eyes set on Julian Lewis’ decision

Julian Lewis is committed to the Trojans but the race to snag Julian Lewis is still on. Why, you ask? The reason is the continued interest the QB is showing in the other teams. The Carrollton high school prospect knows that he is the hottest QB in the 2025 class in the market. So, Colorado is not letting their hopes of getting JuJu on their team anytime soon even though JuJu has not nodded a yes after the very hospitable treatment CU has given Lewis.

Philip Dukes of The Inside Scoop believes that “Colorado has a lot of momentum,” in the JuJu case. Now, as their patience comes to an end, Deion Sanders and Co. have even issued an official offer letter to Julian Lewis. Julian Lewis promptly replied with “Grateful to be a Buffalo.” With this hint, is news of commitment to Colorado on the way from Lewis? Only time will tell.
