Coach Prime‘s touchdown in Boulder created a whirlwind of excitement for both the Buffaloes and Deion Sanders himself. He elevated the Buffaloes into the Pac-12 realm, orchestrating a remarkable turnaround from a dismal 1-11 record in 2022-23. The initial sprint was impressive, as they won three consecutive games. However, the season finale at 4-8 left fans disappointed. In a recent chat with former Ravens QB Robert Griffin III aka, RG3, Coach Prime delved into the rollercoaster ride of their debut year in Boulder.
When asked to describe the first year at Colorado, Sanders responded with a three-word message: “We implemented hope.” He went on to emphasize the transition from hope to expectation and highlighted the challenges faced by first-year head coaches taking over a previously struggling program.
Sanders acknowledged, “It has been a tremendous success off the field. We just have to make it a success- on the field. So we have to go from that hope to fulfilling and exceeding expectations. That’s why we go in and get guys on the front lines defensively and offensively.” RG3 continued the conversation by addressing the negativity that often accompanies fame and success, especially for Coach Prime, who called himself ‘a confident black man‘.

To that, Coach Prime responded by attributing the hate to a lack of understanding of humility, and his true humility grounded in his faith. He observed that hate is easier to disperse than love, and while he remains humble, some people only prefer to focus on the negative. “Because I am a confident black man,” said Sanders.
Sanders dismissed those who anticipated his departure, emphasizing his resilience and longevity. He likened his life to four quarters, each representing different phases, with the current phase being Coach Prime. Sanders declared that he is built to last and unapologetically pursue opportunities, emphasizing that he kicked the door in rather than waiting to be let in.
