The NBA father-son duo made history by sealing their spots in the same team, the first to play in the league simultaneously. Despite not getting selected in the first round of the NBA draft, the son of LeBron James got drafted into the top seed in the league as the 55th pick. In simple words, the Lakers drafted James when every other team was wary of drafting him not only because of his age or less NCAA experience.

The main reason behind their apprehension was the cardiac arrest he suffered last year. Although he has now been deemed fit by the doctors, the teams still had their reservations. That’s when the team that his father is a star player of, the Lakers, jumped in and drafted him. This was a lesson for the world, one that Deiondra Sanders, the eldest of Deion Sanders, gladly put into words.

“Bronny got drafted by the Lakers. I love to see it lol Y’all can’t tell me Legacies and last names don’t matter,” the expecting mama wrote in the tweet, highlighting the influence of having a strong last name that any sport has. Despite being the only child of Deion Sanders who has not tried her hand at professional sports, she knows how important it is for all her other siblings.

Safe to say, the football parallel of Bronny James is Shedeur Sanders. Despite being an amazing player, the Colorado QB’s career is heavily influenced because Deion Sanders is his dad and Sanders is his last name. Don’t get us wrong, Coach Prime has confessed to being completely impartial on the training grounds, be it his son or any other player. However, he still has high expectations from his son in for the NFL draft, for him to pull an “Eli Manning.

Deion Sanders’ expectations from Shedeur Sanders

Pulling an Eli Manning, i.e. having so many teams hot on their heels after him that he has to choose which one to go to and not the other way around, was just the first part of Prime’s expectations. He has also decided which would be the perfect teams for Shedeur to be drafted in, and he wishes for him to be drafted in one of these.

They are the five teams that Sanders played for in his career plus one: San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, and Atlanta Falcons, and the plus one being Philadelphia Eagles. To top these expectations off, Deion Sanders also wishes for his son to be one of the top draft picks.

Now the real question is, will the Sanders name be a deciding factor in Shedeur getting drafted by the teams that his father played for or the Eagles? Will Deion Sanders have a role to play in it? That remains to be answered during the 2025 NFL draft.
