Losing a game is disappointing, but blowing up a lead is absolutely disastrous. Deion Sander’s Colorado Buffaloes haplessly squandered a 29-0 halftime advantage against Stanford Cardinal, leading to a devastating 46-43 double-overtime defeat at the packed Folsom Field on Friday. Coach Prime was in utter distress and addressed the concern in post-match interviews.

However, he was not the only one calling out Colorado’s poor performance. Other NFL analysts including ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith put forth his perspective loud and clear on Monday’s edition of ‘First Take.’ The remarks did not shy away from criticizing the team and its members. But, Sanders was quick to quip up a satisfying reply to the criticism, putting matters to rest.

On Monday’s edition of ‘First Take,’ Stephen A. Smith had furnished Colorado with harsh critique, calling them “an absolute disgrace.” According to the host, “The [Colorado] players got caught up in the shine…. Show up on the damn field and do what you’re supposed to do instead of getting your a** kicked on national television.”

These words sounded harsh coming from the analyst but the fact that the Buffaloes effectively blew up a win because of unforgivable blunders remains true. And Prime Time acknowledged the same with a reply to Smith’s comment, “He’s right. Now let’s move on.”

The idea of moving on, however, is open-ended. It is not clear if the coach wants the players and team to move on from the loss to focusing on the challenges that lie ahead, or if is it directed towards the media and other NFL analysts who have been showering the team with criticism following their unfortunate loss against Stanford.

Moving on from the bad, and focusing on the good, is an attitude that is common among the Sanders. Prime Time’s son, and Colorado’s star quarterback Shedeur Sanders displayed a similar approach in the post-match interviews. The spotlight, though, was stolen by an inadvertent correlation the young athlete drew.

“We should be able to grow from it,” said the Colorado star quarterback in the post-match interview after making a crucial fumble which was instrumental in weighing the win towards Stanford. When questioned about his strategy for bouncing back from the loss, the 21-year-old expressed his intention to approach upcoming games with a heightened level of focus, attitude, and seriousness.

This response prompted a reporter to draw parallels between his contributions to the team and community and those of NBA legend Michael Jordan, who also encountered setbacks on his path to success. “For sure, I appreciate it…I feel the same way,” was Shedeur’s reply. It was not Shedeur alone who faltered in the match against Stanford.
