All eyes are dead set on the Colorado prodigy, Travis Hunter with the onset of more and more success, the questions regarding his future are already cooking up. The star of the mighty Buffaloes would want to begin his journey as one of the greats in the NFL, but Deion Sanders‘ trusted friend hints at a contradictory idea.
The two-way star is projected to be a top-5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Moreover, several reports land him with the Commanders next year, alongside Jayden Daniels, but will Hunter fully want to depart for the NFL or commit to yet another season in Boulder, is the question. Fortunately, Uncle Neely shed more light on Hunter’s situation and invoked the metaphor, “The grass is greener where you are.”

On the 27th May episode of the ‘Thee Pregame Show’, Tolly Carr invited Uncle Neely yet again and was seen posing questions about the future of Hunter and whether he should stay back with Coach Prime or not. With his draft projection landing him at the number 2 overall rank, it would make sense if Hunter went to the NFL next season. Yet, as per Neely, the factor of NIL earnings might play a huge role in making him stay back for his 4th year.
Neely confirmed that he hadn’t spoken to Travis directly about his thoughts but still came with his own logical opinion. The huge hype behind Hunter’s name exists as a pre-existing notion that this will definitely be his last season in Boulder but according to Neely, “It’s going to come down to the type of season Travis has this year.” He also believes that it shouldn’t be an “automatic conclusion” that a player of his talents should immediately jump on the first opportunity to leave for the NFL since his career could still amass greater success in college football.

Lastly, Neely concluded by adding, “Not only do I not know, I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed another year.” But it didn’t end there since he went on to talk about all the money that Travis is earning, while also mentioning the dream house that he surprised his mother with this month.

Before the NIL ever came into existence, there was a time when college players would be earning next to pennies for their games. Cut to 2023, when the NIL got passed, players like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders were earning millions, a number that would leave former college players’ jaws dropped dead open. Due to this new climate, there is a strong chance that Hunter could be persuaded to stay back since several NFL athletes aren’t even close to earning as much as him.

According to Neely, all college players know they’ve officially made it in the sport when they have enough money to buy their mother a house. Hunter has done that already. Earlier this month, he surprised his mother with her dream house, which is definitely a monumental achievement for a 21-year-old.
“He’s taken a Tesla and Hello Kitty wrapped it. He’s got all the pajamas he can wear and he’s out there still fishing and being a kid“, said Neely while listing out all the financial milestones Hunter has attained in just a year with the Colorado Buffaloes. The decision to go to the NFL or stay back with the Buffs is obviously a drastic one that will determine his future in the sport, but if Neely’s words are to be taken seriously, there is a big chance that Hunter might want to stay back and continue raking in millions.
