The name of Shedeur Sanders swirls around in college football news constantly, but this time, it’s nothing but positive feedback for his abilities. Though his questionable antics have put him in a tough spot with the fans, Shedeur has made sure that no doubts could be raised over the way he plays on the gridiron and today, the fruits of his labor have been granted.
Shedeur Sanders, the QB for the Colorado Buffaloes, gave it his all and then some more in order to take his team to victory. While it was an admirable effort to try and make it to a CFP top-4 spot, the team couldn’t do much except rake in 4 wins against their 8 losses. But amid all of the regrets and the poor strategies of Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s performance was the one that would’ve been excluded from the list no matter what since the youngster poured literal blood, sweat, and tears into the overall betterment of the team. Ironically, it is Matt Rhule, the arch-nemesis of the Colorado Buffaloes, who has high praise for the QB but in sports, a talented player never goes unnoticed, even by the rivals.

On the 1st July episode of the Joel Klatt show, the HC for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Matt Rhule came on to the show to talk about the expectations that the fans have for him as he steps into year 2 of his tenure. Later in a segment, he was seen talking about Nebraska’s staunch rivals, the Colorado Buffaloes, and spoke a great deal about Shedeur Sanders and the talent that he brings to the table.
Last year, it was definitely a moment of weakness for Deion when he saw Shedeur being sacked by other teams over and over again. But according to Rhule, that just might be his biggest strength yet. Rhule said, “The thing we always have to remember when we talk about Colorado is how great Shedeur is. He is one of the best football players I’ve ever coached against. We blitzed him, and I think we sacked him like 10 times, and we hit him a ton. He stood in there, and I know everyone sees Shedeur on commercials, and they see the swagger that he plays with, but he’s an unbelievable competitor.”

Thus, this is the very resilience that could make him a great leader yet again as the Buffaloes will be banking on his talent to redeem themselves from last season. What should also be noteworthy is that while Matt Rhule is being very nice about the QB, Shedeur and he had a tumultuous equation last year after their game.
Matt Rhule and Shedeur Sanders’ sour relationship
The game between Colorado and Nebraska had a lot of eyes on it since both Matt Rhule and Deion were in their debut coaching year with their respective teams and as such, a lot of expectations were on the rise. Coach Prime’s team went on to win it against the Cornhuskers by a score of 36-14 but after the game, Shedeur insinuated that he felt “extreme disrespect” from the entire team, including Matt Rhule.

What happened was that Rhule gathered his team at midfield and they were all standing on the Colorado logo, which didn’t sit right with Shedeur and he immediately went in and disrupted it. As per Shedeur, “It was extremely personal. We go out there to warm up, you got the head coach from the other team trying to stand in the middle of the Buff. It’s OK if a couple of players do it, but when you got the whole team trying to disrespect it, then I’m not going for that at all.”
In Rhule’s defense, he always brings his team together at midfield for a pregame prayer but Shedeur wasn’t having it. The QB also implied that Rhule “said a lot of things” about his father as well, which was also refuted by the Nebraskan HC. In his concluding statement, Shedeur said, “I don’t respect that because you’re hating on another man. You shouldn’t do that. So all respect was gone for them and their program.” The two teams will meet once again on 8th September and mark the beginning of the new season but as far as the Rhule-Shedeur dynamic is concerned, it doesn’t seem like it will fix itself so easily so soon.
