It looks like everybody wants a piece of the Primetime cake. After switching allegiance to the University of Colorado from Jackson State, Deion Sanders has become a battleground again. This time, two, billion-dollar corporations are in the mix. And this battle also includes Sanders’ son and the new Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders too.

The new situation has arisen due to a promise Coach Prime made to Colorado as the new head coach.

Deion Sanders is in the midst of a battle between two billion-dollar sports apparel companies. Sanders had a deal with ‘Under Armour’ from his Jackson State days. In fact, even his son and the new Colorado QB Shedeur had an apparel deal with the same company.

But due to Coach Prime’s switch to the PAC-12 school, the University of Colorado, that deal might be going off. Sanders’ new team has had a deal with Under Armour’s rivals Nike since the 90s. And as the new head coach, Sanders will wear the swoosh logo while on team duty.

Coach Prime’s $29.5 million contract with the Buffaloes has a clause which stipulates that he wears the Nike-branded Buffaloes apparel when coaching the team and during the games. While Sander’s contract with the Buffaloes runs till 2027, Nike’s current contract with the school ends in 2025. So at least till then, the new Buffs coach will wear the swoosh logo on his chest. And so will the team’s new quarterback.

When Sanders joined Jackson State back in 2020, the Tigers were a Nike team too. But Coach Prime got them a deal with Under Armour during his stint. Maybe he will do the same here after 2025.

The Buffaloes haven’t won the National Championship in the last three decades. They have just one national title in their entire history, winning it back in 1990. So can Deion Sanders work his magic in Boulder, Colorado like he did in Jackson State? Coach Prime didn’t win a national championship there but he, at least, brought the HBCU to the American sports map. Will he take a step up and bring home the FBS Division I title to the hungry PAC-12 school?

The Buffs have given the NFL legend all the means they could to do just that. He has a separate budget for private planes to recruit new talent. And this is something even his predecessor didn’t get. It will be interesting to see where he can take the sleeping giants when he takes the helm in the games next season.
