A few days ago, Deion Sanders gave the football world something to talk about when he dropped his cents on his sons’ NFL future. He projected his son Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to enter the 2025 NFL Draft among the Top 4 players. Even more interestingly, Coach Prime doesn’t want them to get drafted by certain teams and hinted at pulling an Eli if they do.

While that certainly is a topic of discussion in itself, his desire for Shedeur Sanders and co. to land in an organization dominated by Black people stirred another hot debate. His concerns for his sons’ NFL future aren’t met without criticism from various people including the Blaze Media host. See what he has to say about Coach Prime’s multifaceted logic.

In a recent YouTube episode on Jason Whitlock, the 56-year-old sports columnist dropped his views on Coach Prime’s logic in hand-picking the right NFL team for them by choosing one that is dominated by Black authorities. After slamming him for his inconsistent logic, Whitlock said, “Deion just talks and talks and talks and people go for it. He knows he can say anything and no one holds him accountable or no one expects his logic to make sense.”

What happened was that after Deion Sanders made it clear that there are certain teams that he doesn’t want his sons to join, while also listing out some green-signal teams that he’s okay with. These include San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, and Baltimore. But he also made an interesting remark about his former team, the Atlanta Falcons. Whitlock quoted Coach Prime’s words, saying, “There were certain cities that fit for me. Atlanta fit. And I want that for my kids… Atlanta was the first time I saw Black people in positions of authority. It blew my mind.” Now, the reason why Whitlock is slamming Deion Sanders is that he “left Jackson Mississippi for one of the whitest places on the planet – Boulder, Colorado.” And Whitlock has a point there.

Deion Sanders’ shift from Jackson State to Colorado

Coach Prime joined JSU in 2020 and turned the HBCU into an attractive institution like that of white-dominated ones. But for him to leave the Tigers for a very white city that was only 0.9% Black didn’t sit well with Whitlock now that he’s mentioned he’d rather want Shedeur Sanders and co. to play in an organization similar to JSU in the cultural aspect. Let’s also consider what Deion Sanders said about leaving Jackson State, “The thing that alarms me the most is just because I’m leaving Jackson, they think I’m leaving African Americans.”

That’s far from the truth. Deion Sanders may talk and talk but he still manages to get things done. After his first season in Boulder, CU received a record of 68,000 applications for the 2024 fall semester where about 50.5% are African Americans. Now that he’s established the trust of Black people in Colorado, he wants his sons to experience the unity of the Black community like he did when they left Boulder to join the pro league.
