By firing Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M Aggies has opened one of the most lucrative jobs in college football. Ironically, despite the abundant resources, the team is facing several hindrances in finding a suitable head coach. With Deion Sanders dismissing the possibility of taking up the job with his ‘no-nonsense’ reply, Aggies faced disappointment with that nominee.

After the most rumored candidate was ruled out, the team had hopes from Oregon State’s Dan Lanning. But to no avail, as Lanning too dismissed the talks with a loud and clear “I’m not going anywhere.” Well, moving on to their next candidate, Clemson Tigers’ head coach, Dabo Swinney.

Swinney has a history with the Tigers that dates back to 2003 when he was a staff member of the team. Following this, he assumed the duties of head coach in the mid-2008 season. Since then, the coach has guided the Tigers through two national titles. Hence, the coach made his stance clear on the vacant position when asked about it at Tuesday’s press conference. “I’m just focused on this job … Always have been. Just trying to beat North Carolina,” commented Swinney. Further adding a splash of sarcasm to his reply, the Clemson head coach added, “It must be November — that’s all I can say.”

Although, this is not the first time Swinney has been elected as a candidate for another team’s head coach position. And as it goes without saying, this is not the first time Clemson’s head coach has refused the offers. Well, Clemson University’s incredible records are not the only things holding him back. Rather, it is something much more personal for him.

Why Dabo Swinney does not want to leave Clemson?

Tuesday’s press conference not only consisted of the burning replies from Dabo Swinney, but it also witnessed the Clemson head coach giving a glimpse into his journey. Coach Swinney started as the lowest-paying coach in the conference. “I’m where I am because I’ve worked my a** off – every single day,” reflected Swinney. “So if you’ve got a problem with that, I don’t care.”

Moreover, he made it clear that he works for the Board of Trustees, and thus will consider any complaints regarding his work only from them. He also added if the situation comes to be, he will “go somewhere else, where there is an appreciation.” It is safe to say that Swinney’s rejection was the most fierce one among all the previous ones. Hard luck, Texas A&M.
