Coach Kevin Mathis reaps the credit over Deion Sanders this time! The Buffs HC, on the other hand, also has molded many young men during his coaching career in both Jackson State and Colorado. And while many of his players lauded him as their influence, one particular defensive Buffs player agreed to disagree.

It’s not that Cam’Ron Silmon Craig isn’t appreciative of Coach Prime’s leadership. He has positive things to say about his head coach, under whom he played for three seasons, with the upcoming season slated to be his final year of playing college football. It’s just that he took a liking to the coach who has been more present, especially since Deion Sanders usually works with the offense.

Cam Silmon made a big revelation in the YouTube episode on July 22 on Reach The People Media. In the interview, the Buffs safety expressed his affection for Deion Sanders, saying, “I love him to death. That’s my dog.” Even so, his main influence and hero isn’t him but defensive Coach Kevin Mathis as he said, “He’s the most influential person in my life. I wouldn’t be nowhere where I am today if it weren’t for him… He’s almost a dad to me.”

Silmon, who is a product from Trinity Christian HS, credits Mathis for his early development as a defensive player. The pair have worked together right from high school to Jackson State before they both followed Coach Prime to Colorado for the 2023 season. From being an uninspired HS athlete to recording 32 solo tackles and three interceptions last season, Silmon has come a long way under Coach Kevin Mathis’ fatherly guidance and was even named Shilo Sanders’ equivalent. And this direction that he got enabled him to fulfill a special gesture for his mother.

Cam Silmon’s simple yet big dream

As his interview pointed out, Cam Silmon didn’t have a lavish childhood growing up. But the way he was able to save on his earnings and fulfill the promise he made to his mother shows his noble character even off the field. After promising his mother that he’d buy her a car, he was finally able to make it happen.

The Buffs safety admitted that he doesn’t mind stripping off his account for those people who mean the world to him. Fondly recalling his mother’s happiness, he said, “Just seeing her smile. That’s what means the most to me.” His mother couldn’t believe it as Silmon presented her with a brand new sleek black car as she hopped in and out of the car with excitement. This noble gesture from a son to a mother is truly commendable.
