Get ready for a behind-the-scenes look at the Hall of Fame as Warren Sapp spills the tea. The CU Buffs graduate assistant was at the ceremony to help his coach, Deion Sanders, give the golden jacket to Devin Hester. But Sapp couldn’t resist sneaking a peek at all the other jackets.
Each jacket has a number on it, and Sapp was on a mission to find the lowest number. He wanted to see who the oldest player in the Hall of Fame was.
Speaking to Uncle Neely on “Thee Pregame Show Network,” the 2013 HoF star Sapp revealed more about the “golden jacket room.” He said, “I was going around looking for the lowest number. Because like James Lofton is 220, Thurman Thomas is 240, Emmitt Smith is 260, I’m 280.” It seems the organization assigns number codes based on the year each member was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

And finally found the 80s star Larry Little who played for the Dolphins, and his number was really as low as 166. But Sapp’s curiosity does not stop here. His next stop is with Bob Lilly, a defensive tackle who survived the legendary “Ice Bowl” of ’67. The Buffs staffer finds his number to be a jaw-dropping “105.” And then moves to the “101” Ron Mix and “115” Bobby Bell to just keep feeding his curiosity. But wait! Sapp revealed that someone did say, “I think there’s one dude who is still alive, I think he’s 80 number.”

Deion Sanders was a key figure in the 2024 Hall of Fame ceremony. He was inducted back in 2011, two years before Warren Sapp. This means he obviously got a lower number on his jacket than Sapp. But what’s more important is how Deion has revolutionized the Hall of Fame.

In 2022, Coach Prime started raising red flags about the Hall’s selection process. “The Hall of Fame ain’t the Hall of Fame no more,” Sanders said in a Well Off media video. “This thing is becoming a free for all. If you play good, no! It’s people that changed the game. That’s what the Hall of Fame is; a game changer.” He even suggested different colored jackets to distinguish the elite game-changers from those who had good runs.
But Deion didn’t stop there. When Devin Hester missed out on Hall of Fame recognition in 2023, Deion went to social media, ranting, “How can Devin Hester not be a Hall of Famer? This is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Devin Hester changed the darn game.” Now, fast forward to 2024, and Deion had the honor of presenting the ex-Chicago wide receiver Hester with his golden jacket. The tear-filled moment between these two GOATs went viral, showing that Deion’s voice is truly being heard.
