This fall camp for the Colorado Buffs is crazy! It’s only the first day of training, and the intensity is burning among the players. There’s lots of energy going physical, and young blood’s rising, too. And it’s a clash between the offense and defense.
One month is left before the real action begins when the Buffs hit Folsom Field for an opener against North Dakota State on August 29 at 6:00 PM. RB coach Gary Harrell endorsed Coach Prime’s message: “His expectation is now. We’re not waiting for year three to win. We’re not waiting for mid-season for everything to click. It has to happen now.” And based on Monday’s practice, it looks like the Buffs players have already taken Deion Sanders’ message to heart.
The first practice for the 2024 fall camp on July 30 saw a mini scuffle as covered by Deion Sanders Jr. on Well Off Media. Inside linebacker LaVonta Bentley and offensive lineman Kahlil Benson locked horns as they got into a heated clash between the offense and defense. No. 20 Bentley delivered a smack in No. 67 Benson’s face. After a brief shock, Benson tried to get back at him, but teammates who pulled Bentley away from the scene stalled the fight.

Linebacker Trevor Woods later laughed off the scene, saying, “The one who everyone chirps with the most is Kahlil. (Fights) could happen on every play with Kahlil. You never know what’s going to happen with him. He’s a great dude off the field, but he’ll come talking.” The Buffs are already on the next level with high intensity on both sides. Could it indicate a potentially successful season this year?

Colorado is expected to finish 11th in the Big 12 but this underrated expectation isn’t dampening Deion Sanders’ hope. Why? Because they’re prepared! The Buffs upgraded their roster for the 2024 season with 62 newcomers joining the program. However, the biggest change can be seen in the offensive line, which led to their downfall last season.
Ten of the 13 OL scholarship players are new to Colorado. As Woods pointed out, “We definitely have a better O-line; I mean it’s a whole new O-line right now.” But the defense isn’t lagging either. Six new defensive players joined the line, including BJ Green. As the team’s governor, Camden Dempsey, said, “Everyone knows that we need to be laser focused on that Big 12 championship and on the national championship… We’ve got all the guys in the room that we need to win that. The talent’s there, motivation’s there, drive is there.” There can be plenty of talk, but time will reveal the true potential of Colorado this season.
