Another day and more buzz surrounding Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes. This time, it’s Colorado State University safety, Jack Howell, on a mission to seek revenge from the Buffs. Sharing the clip from Howell’s interview on Zero 2 Sixty with Matt McChesney, co-host Bailey Price ratcheted up the heat. And what did the Colorado alum have to say about it? Howell’s action just did not sit well with McChesney. The question remains whether the CSU safety will stand by his words. As expected, it will come down to two wow factors: Colorado Buffaloes’ Shedeur Sanders and CSU’s Jack Howell.
The tension between the Buffs and CSU has started to simmer. The last time, Deion’s program gained the upper hand by defeating Jay Norvell’s squad 43-35. However, luck favored Coach Prime’s program as they had the double-overtime privilege. At Mountain West Football Media Days, Howell revealed that the key priority for the Rams in 2024 is to redeem that loss to their long-time rivals. The excited player claimed, “Last year they got us in the last two minutes. That was a chippy game. After all the crap that we had to deal with leading up to that game, then after the game, we owe them another game. We want some revenge. If they thought it was physical last time, they’re going to be in for a surprise this time.”
McChesney had something to say about this. To the Colorado alum, it is nothing but CSU’s obsession, “This is more CSU completely infatuated with Colorado bro. They’re totally infatuated with the University of Colorado. They can’t stop they just want to talk about it all day.” He further highlighted how it’s too early for the Rams to focus on the Buffs, “We play Texas first. We really need to focus on going to Austin and putting the best version of ourselves out there. We can focus on the University of Colorado in week three.” And to Howell’s disappointment, McChesney assured this year would be like the last year, and Deion’s Buffs are heading strong into the season. Is there any chance of a Shedeur vs. Howell face-off?

Deion’s fortress against CSU’s payback plan
Even though this year Colorado State’s defense looks a bit dull, there is some hope. Thanks to the safety Howell who bagged the first-team All-MWC. And it’s interesting to note that the Buffs QB Shedeur and Howell share much in common. Howell’s father, too, is a renowned figure in the football world. He is none other than John Howell, who initially played at CSU and later transitioned to the NFL. The legend has a winning record of Super Bowl XXXVII with the Buccaneers as a backup safety.
Coming off a strong sophomore year, Howell has NFL aspirations. At Colorado State, he led the team with 114 tackles and finished second in total tackles in the Mountain West. Unfortunately, even then, the 2025 NFL craze surrounds the Buffs quarterback Shedeur.
Deion Sanders’ son is hailed as one of the top-5 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Even though he emerged as the most sacked quarterback last season, during the Black and Gold Game this year, he showed his potential, finishing 10-14 for 116 yards. Besides, the Buffs HC has laid out a safety net for him with a bolstered defensive line that will derail Howell’s payback plan on the Buffs.
