As the season progresses, the games are getting tougher and tougher in the NCAA. The USC Trojans faced a setback when they battled it out in a cutting-edge game against the Utah Utes on Sunday. With a deficit of just 2 points, this loss against Utah probably hurt the Trojans more than the previous one, especially to the star QB Caleb Williams.

Critics all over the world have given their takes on Caleb Williams not being able to perform against top opponents. The bad news is this accounts for their second (consecutive) loss this season. Utah, since their previous win against the Trojans, has established an upper hand, one which the Trojans need back after losing four games against Utah. Many online users think Williams is ineffective in leading the team against strong opponents, but Micah Parsons disagrees.

The Cowboys‘ star linebacker shunned every critic with his observation of the Utes-Trojans game. “Very high on Caleb Williams. A lot of critics say that he does not perform well against the top opponents. I just think that’s b*****it,” he said. “Doesn’t matter how many points you put up and how well you play, if your defense cannot get stops, if they cannot create turnovers, create opportunities, very well hurt your success.”

With many analysts worldwide having pointed out the faults in USC’s defense, as a unit, they have marginally improved since last season. The opponents against the Trojans are averaging 5.7 yards per play compared to 6.5 yards per play in 2022. Parsons makes a fair point there. With Williams being viewed as a possible 1st overall pick in the 2024 draft, the losses can prove to be a tad too costly for him. Yet, staying true to his sportsmanship, the QB is valiantly fighting back the odds.

Coach Riley shared how heavy the loss has been for the team to the Associated Press. “Locker room is pretty torn up right now, as it should be. Had two tough losses in a row. It’s college football. Comes down to little things here and there, and we haven’t played clean enough in the last couple of weeks.” Will these words be enough to motivate the team to push them to perform better?
