Is it fair to compare Deion Sanders Jr. to his legendary father, or should he be seen as his own man?

A curse disguised as a blessing, or a blessing disguised as a curse? There is only a fine line between the two, ask Deion Sanders Jr. Looking at all the glitz and glamor Bucky’s life has to offer, one might as well be utterly envious of him. His interview with Reach the People Media aired on July 25, 2024, where Sanders Jr. paints a raw picture of all the behind-the-scenes that fail to make it to our eyes. It was not all flowers and rainbows for Deion Sanders Jr. while growing up as the son of a legendary man. He had to do everything in his power to shoulder the heavy last name Sanders.

His journey from being ‘Deion Sanders’ son’ to ‘Deion Sanders Jr.’ was a precarious one. Further, Bucky got candid about how he hardly had anyone to consult despite his father being his guiding light. “It’s like, who do you ask for help? It’s like all you really talk to is your mom,” Bucky said, iterating how his relationship had bloomed with his mom since he spent his childhood and youth with her. With his dad, however, things were different.

“I couldn’t ask my dad. I never lived with my dad like that. He’s a great caring giving person, don’t get me wrong but his kids, he wanted them to grow up like ‘No bro you going to go get that sh*t. Like I said, I gave you a name. Do something with it,” Bucky confessed. After it all, Bucky could do anything but derive a theory about him ‘never liking telling people my name’.

The real reason why Deion Sanders Jr. ‘hated’ his last name.

At one point, Bucky almost lost his battle against circumstances. “Why am I not winning, bro? I have a great plan. I’m a good person. It’s like I’m doing good work. I actually have a good product and a good sale. I have everything good but it’s like it just won’t work for me,” Sanders Jr. said, expressing his fury. All of this would end up with him just aimlessly strolling on the streets at 3 am, bawling his eyes out to his girlfriend, Brittany.

All of this, plus Bucky’s confession of facing special troubles as a kid, just because he was ‘Deion Sanders Jr.’ All the tussle of fighting people’s views on his legendary family name, along with establishing an identity for himself, not to mention the struggles of achieving his own dreams, landed Bucky on a strong theory about his name.

“I used to never like telling people my name. I hated that sh*t,” Sanders Jr. said, confessing his frustration of dealing with the repercussions of the Sanders name. Be it a blessing or a curse, if Sanders didn’t have the talent to make it here, he would still just be ‘Deion Sanders’ son’ and not ‘Deion Sanders’ Jr.’.
