Deion Sanders has 19 signed players out of the original 20. DJ Lundy, an exceptional LB with whom high hopes were attached, changed his mind and exited the transfer portal to return to Florida. Seems that the bad luck is yet not over, as Colorado Buffs lose yet another vital staff member.
Coach Prime knows better than to rely on one specific team member amidst the ever-changing landscapes of football. However, losing two pivotal pieces in his team in quick fashion might set him back. However, Deion Sanders is experienced in building a team from recruits, something that he executed last season with his transferred team from Jackson State. What Coach Prime didn’t expect was losing a member of that very Jackson State team!

Buffs director of quality control, Dennis Thurman accepted a new role at Hawaii as their next defensive coordinator, per SI. This farewell makes him the 8th staff member to leave Buffs since last season. Experienced coordinators like Sean Lewis, who is now the San Diego State head coach, and Charles Kelly, who works at his alma matter Auburn, accepted offers at other universities, rendering Buffs without their experience.

Speaking of experience, Thurman was one of the most experienced players at Buffs with over 35 years of experience along the coaching lines. The 67-year-old has worked for NFL majorly. Surprisingly, he was the position coach at Ravens and had coached Sanders as well during his final stretch of NFL career. Hence, Coach Prime also lost on a good companion along with a subject-matter expert. The signing day is on 7th February and Buffs would have to finalise their roster before that.

Coach Prime has faith in his recruit
Almost as a silver lining on the darkest days, Coach Prime secured recruiting master Devin Rispress from FMAU. The Tallahassee native is reputed for securing one of the best recruiting class for Florida in 2022, which aided the program to win a franchise first Southwestern Athletic Conference title and the HBCU Bowl title in 2023.

With the help of the recruiting maestro, Coach Prime would be able to make the most out of the rooster ahead of the signing day. While Rispress might take a while to fill up the big shoes of Thurman, Lewis and Kelly, he would surely prove to be a valuable asset to CU during this recruiting season.
