While Colorado’s wide receiver Xavier Weaver appeared at Indianapolis for the NFL Combine, his non-participation in the drills raised questions. He was the standout wide receiver for the Colorado Buffaloes in 2023. Weaver has voiced genuine reasons that prevented him from showcasing his talents at the combine.
Opening up during a YouTube video, he talks about injury woes that paused his presence, limiting him physically. At the same time, he still gave body measurements and interacted with the media personnel. We delve deeper into his reasoning and the future as he appears in good spirits, cheering for other wide receivers and expressing pride in representing Colorado.
Playing through the pain, Xavier Weaver opens up on injury problems
The Buffs’ leading receiver in 2023, Weaver, confirmed he had suffered an agonizing shoulder injury, which would re-appear even during training sessions for the player. Despite being present at the NFL combine, he answered the media’s questions regarding his absence from the drills and flaunting his talents. “I physically couldn’t… If I could, I would… But then again, I’m one month of surgery… So I just had to play it smart.” He reiterated how his absence was more of a compulsion than a choice.
Weaver has accepted that as much as he wanted to express his talents at the grand stage of professional football, his injury would have only gotten worse. He played throughout the season with excruciating pain despite grappling with a torn labrum as surgery looms next for him. “I played the whole season with a torn labrum…slipping out every game, practice, you know,” he confessed as he braced for a four-month-recovery process.
Weaver’s road to recovery as he confirms surgery
The following thing on Xavier Weaver’s mind would be to get back to his best as soon as possible. However, the process might seem more complex than he is set to go through shoulder surgery to prevent dislocation and further stress on his muscles. The grueling four-month recovery process will keep him away from the game, limiting his body mobility and fitness.
“I would…definitely wanted to participate in the combine,” he said on YouTube, as he still regrets not being fit enough to perform. Amidst setbacks, his determination has not gone down. He has confirmed he aims to get out of the recovery process as a stronger person. The media asked him about the best advice he got at the Combine. He replied, “So I’m soaking everything up as I can.” underlining his interest in observing and learning. As he looks to return to football, we wish him a speedy recovery. However, do you think his absence will affect his draft stock? Let us know in the comments below.
