In a striking blow to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, the program lost over 20 players in the spring transfer portal. But what shines as a beacon of hope is that there are also incoming players who might be able to recoup the losses of those outgoing transfers. Not only that, the CU Buffs are setting a unique FBS record with the most sets of blood brothers.

The latest haul by Deion Sanders is former Auburn CB Colton Hood and his brother RB Brandon Hood, who received offers from various programs like Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU. Colorado already had four sets of brothers on the team before these brothers came in. So, let’s dive in and see who these players are, including an interesting stat about them.

The family bond seems stronger than ever under Coach Prime’s leadership in Boulder. According to an X post, “Colorado has 5 sets of brothers on their team.” And the interesting stat is that each of these brothers plays in different positions — offense and defense.

Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders

The most prominent brother duo is the Buffs starting QB Shedeur Sanders and his safety brother Shilo Sanders, a self-proclaimed CEO of Headache Gang. Shedeur Sanders is the star player on the Buffs roster and is a projected top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, while Shilo Sanders is a dominant defensive player known for his aggressive style of play.

LaJohntay Wester and Jaylen Wester

Former FAU WR LaJohntay Wester committed to the Buffs early this year, following in his younger LB brother Jaylen Wester’s footsteps, who was a former Owls player. Jaylen Wester said of his 5’11, 175-pound brother, “(LaJohntay) brings a dog mentality. It’s not about how big you are. It all comes down to what’s inside.”

Keaten Wade and Destin Wade

Up next are the Kentucky twins, Keaten Wade and Destin Wade. Although QB Destin Wade was a redshirt freshman at Kentucky, he comes with a coveted Mr. Football Tennessee honor and played just one game with the Wildcats in the Music City Bowl last season. As for the 6’5, 250-pound outside linebacker appeared in 26 games in Kentucky, recording 51 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and five QB hurries.

Kole Mathis and Kaleb Mathis

Another brother duo that joined Deion Sanders in Colorado are Kole Mathis and Kaleb Mathis, the sons of former NFL star and current CU Buffs CB coach Kevin Mathis. After WR Kaleb Mathis joined the Buffs in 2022 from Grace Prep Arlington, Texas, his brother CB Kole Mathis announced his decision to join him in Boulder after recording 31 total tackles, four interceptions, and four PDUs in 11 games at Boulder’s Fairview HS.

Last but not least, Colton Hood and Brandon Hood make the fifth brother duo with their recent announcement to join Colorado. Coming from Auburn, 6’0, 195-pound CB Colton Hood still has four years of eligibility remaining, while his 5’11, 190-pound RB brother will see his first college football action as a Buffs player.

Hopefully, with these family bonds in view, the Buffs will be able to secure a better record this season.
