Coach Prime’s gamble on a complete roster overhaul following a disappointing season for the Colorado Buffaloes seems to be paying off. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders, despite his strong performance, was plagued by a weak offensive line (leading the league with 45 sacks), prompting Coach Prime to take drastic action.

He brought in a whopping 10 new offensive linemen, boosting the scholarship O-linemen to 15. New names like Khalil Benson and Chris Morris were brought to solidify the revamped offense. And the offense’s strength was evident in their spring game victory over the defense (29-24).

However, a recent development highlights another area of progress — the defense. A video posted on June 7 by Well Off Media showcases an intense practice session where the Buffaloes’ offensive line clashed with their own defensive line. Despite the revamped offensive line putting up a fight, the defensive line ultimately emerged victorious. Deion Sanders Jr. hinted at the competitive balance by posting on X that “D Line won today but I only showed specific clips. Not any clips of somebody clearly whooping the other side.. mostly just equal reps.”

Now, this is quite the positive sign the Buffs were looking for. Coach Prime’s decision to bolster the defense with players like Tawfiq Thomas and Nikhai Hill-Green under the guidance of new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is proving effective. The healthy competition between offense and defense will only benefit the team in the long run.

While Shedeur Sanders and the offense did well early in the year with a spring game victory, now it looks like the defense is stealing the spotlight lately.

Coach Prime is building a championship team for the Big 12

Deion Sanders Jr. recently shared another exciting video showcasing the intense competition brewing between the Colorado Buffaloes’ offense and defense sides. In a fun game, the Buffaloes were split into two teams – offense led by their star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defense led by the two-way phenom Travis Hunter. Each team had eight players, and they faced off in a running race challenge. And here again, the offense got rough, as the defense emerged victorious.

This back-and-forth competition, in a way, showcases Coach Prime’s successful recruiting efforts. Looks like he has finally brought back worthy additions on both sides of the field. However, Coach Prime isn’t stopping there —  he’s fostering team spirit through fun camps and rigorous training sessions.

With both offense and defense pushing each other hard, the brand-new Buffaloes’  seem to have the potential to become a surprise powerhouse in the Big 12 this season.
