Following thе dеparturе of dеfеnsivе coordinator Charlеs Kеlly, Colorado faces uncertainty as they move from PAC 12 to Big 12 for the 2024/25 season. The Buffs were dealt another blow when their DC target Anthony Weaver joined the Miami Dolphins. However, a recent update suggеsts that the appointment of a new DC may be imminent.
The Buffs lost offensive coordinator Sean Lewis in November 2023, who took San Diego State’s head coaching job. Since then the search is on to replace with Deion Sanders and co. appearing close to announcing a replacement.

During a recent segment of ‘Well Off Media’, Colorado linebacker coach Vincent Dancy provided a hint about a potential breakthrough amidst the anticipation surrounding the defensive coordinator vacancy. Addressing the defense players of Colorado, Coach Dancy emphasized the importance of accountability and teamwork, signaling the ongoing coordinator situation.
In response to Coach Dancy’s remarks, outside linebacker Khairi Mann eagerly inquired, “We got one?” Coach Dancy’s affirmative yet cryptic reply, “We ’bout to! It’s gonna be exciting. It’s gonna be somebody gonna let you guys play,” hinted at the prospect of a new defensive coordinator being on the horizon for the Buffaloes.
As The Buffs prepare for a move to Big 12, they would hope to quickly solve the DC situation. Last year in July, the University of Colorado Board of Regents unanimously adopted a resolution to move the Buffaloes out of the Pac-12 and back to the conference they helped found in 1996. The Buffs left the Big 12 after the 2010-11 academic year, officially joining the Pac-12 in 2011. Now 13 year later they head back to Big 12, but are without a DC currently.
Towards the end of January, Deion Sanders had said the signing of a new DC would be in the coming days. Speaking on the UNDISPUTED on January 30, Coach Prime said, “We’re probably going to hire a defensive coordinator within the next two days, maybe even today.” It was reported that the Ravens’ defensive line coach Anthony Weaver was in line for a move to Colorado. But those expectations were crushed when NFL side announced Weaver as their new DC.

Deion Sanders identified former Ravens’ defensive line coach Weaver as the Buffaloes’ top candidate for the defensive coordinator position. However, despite their efforts, the Buffaloes could not secure Weaver’s commitment, and ultimately, the Miami Dolphins secured his services.

Weaver brings a wealth of coaching experience to his new role, with a career spanning 12 seasons in the NFL. His tenure includes stints with prominent teams such as the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Texans, and Ravens, with notable success achieved during his time as the assistant head coach with the Ravens.
In Miami, Weaver inherits a talented defense and steps into the role of defensive coordinator under the mentorship of head coach Mike McDaniel. His arrival is pivotal for the Dolphins as they embark on a new era following recent coaching changes.
