Coach Prime’s Colorado Buffaloes are back in action! Their fall camp is underway, and the energy seems quite high. Players are talking up the defense, and the team’s football governor, Campden Dempsey, is loving the competition he’s seeing there. It’s all good vibes in Boulder now.
Adding to the excitement is former Buffs star Matt McChesney. He’s been watching Coach Prime work his magic and is super impressed with the team.
McChesney seems all pumped about the team’s new look and the talent they’ve brought in. Talking to his ‘Zero 2 Sixty’ podcast on July 31st, the Buffs alum pours his thoughts out on how some people are just sleeping on Colorado. “Any other logo and I think people would be clamoring to put this team on a pedestal. For some reason, you know there’s still a bunch of folks out there that think this is a five or six win team. This is an eight, nine, 10-win team that’s going to be competing for the Big 12 title,” he said.

Now, he’s got a point and the Buffs sure have a lot of talent. They’ve got the nation’s best quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, and they’ve got Travis Hunter, who is the best player overall. These two are even dominating every early NFL mock draft as top picks too. Moreover, the Buffs have a stacked offensive line, with Jordan Seaton being a standout 5-star talent.

It sounds like McChesney is tired of people doubting Colorado at this point. “If you don’t see the potential of this squad, you have an agenda against them,” he said bluntly. Well, his brutal words seem like the perfect response to ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum’s latest criticisms of the Buffs.

Paul Finebaum attacks Coach Prime’s team
Paul Finebaum is sure not a fan of Coach Prime’s Buffaloes. He’s been pretty vocal about it, especially after their disappointing 4-8 season last year. In a recent interview this July, Finebaum didn’t hold back. He called out the Buffs for having an “inflated view of themselves.” He reminded everyone about their terrible 8 losses this season and 1-11 season before that. And then there’s Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback, who said Colorado is “everybody’s Super Bowl.” Now Finebaum wasn’t impressed.

“You are an easy win nowadays,” he said, adding that Colorado’s early success last year was against weak teams. He doesn’t think the Buffs are going to make the playoffs anytime soon. In fact, he thinks “Colorado isn’t important in college football….they’re irrelevant in the big picture of college football.” Now that’s a pretty strong statement out there.
Colorado might not have had the best season last year, but they certainly got people talking. Their games garnered an average of 9 million viewers last year, making them very ‘relevant’ in CFB. Let’s see if the Buffs can prove Finebaum wrong this Big 12 season with a title win.
