It has been said that sometimes life comes at you fast.” This is what former Florida A&M Rattlers director of recruiting said of his decision to retire from the program after a roster change. But what everybody didn’t know was that he already had an offer waiting for him from Deion Sanders way before this.

With former FAMU HC Willie Simmons resigning to join Duke as the RB coach, Devin Rispress had been the first to leave. He bid a farewell message to FAMU with the statement, “To Rattler Nation, I love y’all! Thanks for all the support and welcoming me into the family.” A move from Tallahassee to Boulder is exciting not only for the successful recruiting director who just led the Rattlers to their first Southwestern Athletic Conference win but also for Colorado fans.

Coach Prime Deion Sanders always has an eye for talent and Devin Rispress is one of such talents on his radar. The former FAMU coach admitted on Buffs Talk that Coach Prime offered him a job at Colorado last year. But interestingly, he didn’t take the offer because he wanted to finish what he started at FAMU.

Coach Rispress did an amazing job at FAMU in recruiting great players which ultimately led them to the HBCU national championship in the 2023-24 season. Now that he did what he intended to do at FAMU, he accepted Coach Prime’s offer to join him in Colorado as the “assistant director of player personnel/highschool relations for the Buffs.” Given his testament at Florida A&M, he could potentially play a big role in the success of the Buffs with his recruiting talent.

Why is Devin Rispress such a big deal?

In 2022, Devin Rispress was hired by FAMU who went on to put together one of the best recruiting classes in the FCS. The hype was apparent when he enabled the Rattlers to win their first SWAC and HBCU Celebration Bowl titles in 2023. Among his works, perhaps the most notable one would be his recruitment of All-SWAC WR Marcus Riley and Kelvin Dean Jr., who went on to become FAMU’s top assets.

Willie Simmons who served as the ex-HC at FAMU has nothing but high praise for coach Rispress. This is what he wrote about Coach Prime bagging Rispress. He said on X, “Deion Sanders of all the 5 stars you’ve signed over the past few years, this may be your biggest one yet. [Rispress] is a rockstar and all I can say is everyone better watch out because with you two together… sheesh!” It looks like the best are uniting together in Colorado. It’s building more anticipation for the upcoming season!
