After the hoopla surrounding the top defensive unit in the college football landscape, it’s time for the wide receivers to shine. And guess what? The Colorado Buffaloes will come out ahead in this situation. Not only did Deion Sanders’ program find its place in the top 10, but while they gained recognition, Alabama and Georgia are absent from the list.

Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Crimson Tide receives a major setback amidst a crucial scenario, losing their wide receiver coach to a conference rival. Georgia, under Kirby Smart, couldn’t achieve success despite their focus on high school recruits. Consequently, did Deion hit the jackpot by standing out and not chasing after high school recruits?

As the playing season draws near, the college football magazine mogul Phil Steele dropped a bomb. He extensively broke down the preseason rankings of each position group and came up with a list. As the first spot went to Oregon, he thought it wise to land Deion Sanders’ Colorado at No. 7. While it’s time for celebration in Boulder, it’s a fright fest on the horizon for Alabama and Georgia. Isn’t it surprising? Remember that Coach Prime had always been criticized for keeping himself from visiting schools.

Luck didn’t favor DeBoer this time. The new HC tried his best to live up to the high expectations set by Nick Saban, giving everything he had to the program. Unfortunately, at the beginning of his tenure, he faced a setback when Crimson Tide’s WR coach, Holmon Wiggins, left Alabama for Texas A&M. Even though Bulldogs’ HC Smart made use of the transfer portal, he voiced his displeasure with players who can now transfer as many times as they want. However, the scenario is different for Deion’s program.

Coach Prime took full advantage of the transfer season

The transfer portal has been a game-changer for the Buffs’ wide receiver corps. Deion’s Colorado, with the allure of catching balls from QB sensation Shedeur Sanders, has been a magnet for players. According to Steele, Hunter is set to elevate the Buffs WR unit. But the real star is Travis Hunter, joined by FAU’s top receiver Lajohntay Webster, Vandy’s top receiver Will Sheppard, and Jimmy Horn, who has over 1,500 yards in the last three years.

With this, Deion snagged two extremely high-end WRs. The first is the Vanderbilt transfer, Will Sheppard. He balled out on a terrible Vandy team last season, which turned heads, as he ended up as the fifth-best receiver available on the portal. Based on his agility and plug-and-play deep threat quality, he is believed to be the direct successor to Xavier Weaver.

Being FAU Owls’ most consistent pass catcher, Deion ensured to land LaJohntay Wester. He is the definition of a speedster and would make the Colorado WR unit scary to face. But amidst the newcomers, do not lose faith in the names already a part of Coach Prime’s trusted army — dual threat Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr., who will start in the slot. It’s going to be a Herculean season for the Buffs!
