Even before the season kicks off, Coach Prime has the spotlight firmly on him and his Colorado Buffs. His recent comments about star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way phenom Travis Hunter were bold. Deion believes they should be able to dictate which NFL teams they would play for in the 2025 draft. Some see this as the confidence of a great coach and father; others as overreach.

RJ Young recently analyzed Deion’s stance, comparing it to legendary players who leveraged their talent for control. This even echoes Coach Prime’s own infamous draft meetings decades ago. Now, Shedeur is caught in a “catch-22 situation.” Will he follow his father’s words or make his own choices?

RJ Young recently broke down the thoughts behind Deion Sanders’ bold comments. Young sees a clear echo of Deion’s own path here. “I think you got to take a look at this is the way that Prime went through the NFL draft 1989,” he said. Back then, “Neon Deion” was a brash cornerback fresh off a Thorpe Award-winning season. Then, a surprise call-up to the New York Yankees gave him incredible leverage. Deion became the NFL’s highest-paid defensive player with a millions-worthy baseball contract before even taking a snap.

Young added, “Prime refused to take meetings with people that weren’t going to select inside the Top 10.” “That is how his get down has been” — a bold approach that shaped his legendary career. Now, Shedeur faces a complex choice to make here. Will he follow his father’s bold blueprint, using his star power to dictate his NFL future? Or will he make his own choices, embracing the uncertainty of the draft?

Shedeur’s Draft dilemma: Can he control his destiny?

While the 2024 draft is fresh, Deion Sanders has ambitious plans for his son Shedeur in the 2025 class. Coach Prime has made it clear he doesn’t want Shedeur in a “cold” city, effectively limiting his potential NFL landing spots. However, this is not a new thing in the NFL. Legends like John Elway and Eli Manning refused to play for certain teams years ago. However, Shedeur’s ability to pull this off is uncertain.

The NFL draft is unpredictable – players can rise and fall in just one year. Shedeur’s stock skyrocketed in 2023 with his impressive stats. He completed almost 70% of his passes and scored 27 touchdowns. If he has another amazing season in 2024, he could be a top pick in the 2025 draft. That would give Shedeur a huge advantage – the power to choose his team, just like his dad did potentially. It’s a tricky situation right now, but his performance on the field will determine if he gets that kind of control. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
