Deion Sanders is going old school in an attempt to overhaul. Thankfully, only this time, it is the team culture. In light of the Xavier Smith incident and being accused of not building a proper culture, Coach Prime has been engaging his players in team activities. But now his latest strict move has his son annoyed, to say the least.

According to a video uploaded by Deion Sanders on IG, business mogul Tysha Stewart revealed to Darius Sanders that Coach Prime has ordered sleek containers for the players to put their phones in during breakfasts and lunch. The container comes in sleek black and silver finishes and features a hydraulic opening system.

In the video, Coach Prime could be heard saying, “We don’t want you on your phone while you are eating in the cafeteria. We want you guys to talk to each other and get to know one another.” The reason is that Deion Sanders wants the team to get to know each other instead of everyone just drooping over their phones over breakfast and lunch.

Later in the video, we hear Tysha Stewart mention, “he put me on this project. So now they have to put their phones in here during breakfast and lunch,” before revealing, “and I just saw Shilo, and he said, “You know what, Coach Prime is going way too far.”

Toward the end of the video we can see Stewart placing the containers on the tables in the cafeteria while she says, “Back in the day, family used to sit together and eat and talk about their day and get to know one another, that’s what this is all about. Y’all know Coach Prime is old school, and he is bringing all the old-school standards back.”

These attempts to build a culture of compassion come after Sanders has been on the receiving of some criticism about the atmosphere in the team. First there was the Xavier Smith incident. Smith, one of the many players let go from the program by Sanders for his first Buffs roster, accused the coach of “destroying guys’ confidence and belief in themselves” and that Sanders “never even tried” to get to know him.

Earlier this month on the “Fearless with Jason Whitlock” podcast, Mike Ferrell mentioned the lack of a culture at Buffs was down to massive roster changes. He said, “The problem I have is when you get rid of 80% of your roster and bring in new players… You can’t do that every year. There’s also not a culture being established where the guys who have been there for a while can tell the younger guys what’s going on.”

He also highlighted how successful programs like Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia have established a culture where players stay with the side right from their freshman year to their move to NFL and pass on guidance and wisdom to the younger players.

Coach Prime will hope his latest attempt in getting his players to know each other better will allow them to have a better season as he looks to make more noise in the new campaign.

For the second season, Coach Prime is set to lead the Buffs to battle this August when the regular season kicks off. But the 56-year-old Buffs HC is confident because he has several weapons in the roster including his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, and others like Travis Hunter, Jordan Seaton, Chidozie Nwankwo, and more. This season, they’re all in!

Deion Sanders believes his 2024 team can make it to the playoffs this season. He said on Undisputed, “Last year, we were seven points away from 7-8 more wins. We got our bu**s kicked twice, several of those games, we could have won. We could have definitely been a bowl team. We made noise, but now we’re going to make some sounds.” Buffs fans can’t wait to hear and be part of those sounds. They’ll kick off the season with North Dakota State on August 29.
