For a program that prides itself in being one of the best football teams in the NCAA, the recently released Big 12 coach rankings will definitely humble Coach Prime and his team since the feedback isn’t too good. Deion Sanders, the HC for the Colorado Buffaloes, is one of the most influential coaches in college football history.
Ever since his arrival in Boulder, the program saw a massive turnover in its revenue along with its popularity and it was nothing but the “Prime Fever” taking over the community. Despite being ranked at the bottom of the Big 12, Shedeur Sanders’ potential as the number 1 or 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft brings good news for the Colorado program.

As per a recent vote by both CBS Sports and 247Sports staff, they organized all the 16 coaches in the Big 12 and surprisingly enough, the Buffaloes are at the bottom of it with the 15th position. Kyle Whittingham of Utah ended up dominating the league with the number 1 ranking who had a record of 8-5 in the 2023 season. Deion’s 4-8 record seems like the David to Utah’s Goliath rankings, which led to the ranking being awarded.

As per ESPN’s latest mock draft, they have ranked Shedeur Sanders to be the second pick and to be drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders. Moreover, this is the last season where they will get to see Shedeur in action since he’ll be heading to the NFL next year. Thus, with all the new additions to the squad and Shedeur giving it his best to improve the team’s winning record, this might be the season where Colorado can make their much-awaited comeback and prove everyone, including these rankings wrong. With all that said, here’s how the Buffaloes are so much more redefined from last season’s squad and how it might just help in changing the tide around.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Coach Prime overrated, or are the rankings just not giving him the credit he deserves?
Have an interesting take?
When it comes to the transfer portal or just bringing in new additions to the team, Coach Prime excels at it all. He did it last year when he brought in over 72 new scholarship players and he did it again this year, when he drew in a record number of 41 new additions from the portal. Their newest recruits include the likes of 5-star Offensive Tackle, Jordan Seaton, and the talented DL Chidozie Nwankwo with many more.
The Buffs added two other transfers as well, namely, DL Damon Hayes from Pittsburgh and Rayyan Buell from Ohio and the former OL for Texas, Payton Kirkland, who all announced their verbal commitments to the team. Moreover, the hottest QB for the 2025 class, Julian Lewis, is being desperately sought after by the Buffs, and if he does end up flipping his commitment from USC, it could mean great things for Coach Prime and his team. Plus, with the likes of Shedeur, Travis, and Shilo, who are predicted to be playing for the Buffs for the last time, the team could go on to shock everyone with an explosive performance, and also ensure that Shedeur’s elite draft stock remains consistent by the end of the season.
