The mass exodus of players from the Colorado Buffaloes has set a clear vision for Coach Prime. The determined head coach is now focused on finding the best replacements for the departing players. Even though some players left the team on bad terms, and with Sanders’ “no-visit” policy seeming unusual, these haven’t seriously hurt the Colorado football program. New players are still joining the team, drawn by Coach Prime’s reputation.
The team has added about 41 new players while a similar number have left for other teams. The Buffaloes even managed to grab the number one spot in the transfer portal and are continuing to build momentum. To further support his son on offense, Deion has now recruited a new offensive lineman from East Mississippi Community College.

After a brief practice stint with the Memphis Tigers in 2023, he now entered the transfer portal and ultimately decided to join Deion Sanders’ team. He’s already given his verbal commitment and confirmed it on Instagram, saying, “counted out too many times, but I’m still in the game! @cubuffsfootball I’m ready to get to work!” However, this isn’t the first time Deion Sanders has stepped up to protect his quarterback son by bringing in new players through transfers.
Colorado’s offense looks promising with Shedeur Sanders at the helm
Last year, Coach Prime brought in talented linemen like Tyler Johnson, Justin Mayers, Khalil Benson, and Yakiri Walker, to protect his ‘often-hit’ quarterback son. This led to Shedeur Sanders’ impressive start with three consecutive wins. Continuing this trend, Deion Sanders has added 10 new offensive line transfers this offseason, including Chris Morris. With this, the total number of scholarship offensive linemen on the 2024 roster increases to 15, even after the departure of several players from last season.

Before recruiting these new players, Deion wisely bolstered his coaching staff by hiring Pat Shurmur as a full-time offensive coordinator and Phil Loadholt as the offensive line coach. Thus he ensured that both new and returning players were being trained by experienced professionals. This recruitment move is expected to further enhance the Buffs’ already strong defense, led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver Travis Hunter.
Both these stars proved their worth in the “Black and Gold” spring game, along with fellow wide receiver LaJohntay Wester. This revamped offense helped the team score 29 points, beating the defense’s score of 24. Now adding in new transfers not only improves the team’s depth at secondary but also ensures they have strong players in place when key figures like Hunter and Shedeur potentially enter the transfer portal next year.
