Is Coach Prime's recruiting magic the key to CU Buffs' future dominance in college football?

Coach Prime is on a roll in Boulder! He’s building a powerhouse roster for the 2025 season and just landed a major commitment on July 13 from four-star wide receiver Quanell X Farrakhan Jr.

Quanell visited Boulder in mid-June and absolutely loved the atmosphere. He felt right at home, and that feeling quickly turned into a pledge to play for Coach Prime. Last season, this blue-chip WR from Woodlands HS racked up a crazy stat line: 46 receptions for 806 yards and 12 touchdowns! He even added rushing scores and interceptions for good measure.

Quanell was sure a hot commodity, with offers from major programs like Nebraska, Alabama, and Texas A&M. Still, he saw something special in Deion’s vision for Colorado and chose to join the Buffaloes. “noskozone” posted this happy news on Instagram. Soon, Deion himself chimed in with a sarcastic comment: “Hope they don’t take a star away!!!” This is a clear shot at On3 and 247 Sports, who recently downgraded top recruit Julian Lewis from a 5-star QB to a 4-star.

Just a couple of days earlier, Deion sent a lighthearted message to the recruiting world, stating, “Fortunately we don’t care about rankings.” It was a fun jab, but there was a hint of frustration behind the joke as it came soon after Ju Ju’s star rating dropped. Other platforms like Rivals and ESPN still consider him a coveted 5-star recruit.

However, this isn’t Deion’s first time seeing these star downgrades. Many Buffs’ recruits have faced a similar situation. Some platforms might be trying to downplay Deion’s recruiting success by all means. However, star ratings don’t win games, talent does!

Coach Prime’s Buffs face recruiting rating mystery

Have an interesting take?

Looks like there’s a star-dropping curse at Coach Prime’s Colorado Buffaloes. Julian Lewis, a seriously talented quarterback prospect with a crazy stat line (96 touchdowns and 7,212 yards in just 2 years!), is on the verge of joining Deion. But here’s the twist — soon after impressing everyone at the Elite 11 QB competition, Ju Ju saw his recruiting ranking drop from 5-star to 4-star on On3.

And Ju Ju isn’t alone! Two other recent Buffaloes commits, defensive back Alex Graham and offensive lineman Chauncey Gooden, were downgraded from a 4-star to a 3-star status by On3. This happened just as everyone was excited about Ju Ju joining the team.

This isn’t the first time this has happened to Coach Prime. While in Jackson State, top recruit Travis Hunter was ranked #1 by On3.  But guess what? After joining the Buffs, his ranking plummeted to #8, and now he’s at #20. Is there something spooky going on here? Do players lose their talent when they join the Buffaloes? Well, not entirely. Thankfully, Jordan Seaton seems to be the only 5-star recruit holding onto his coveted star ratings.
