Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes want to bounce back from a tough 4-8 season in 2023. While this year won’t see a roster shakeup as dramatic, the team has already made some key changes. They grabbed some eyeballs by hiring Pat Shurmur as an offensive coordinator. After that, Deion’s recruiting star power brought in new talented transfers. The revamped Buffs and those intense spring practices are creating more hype.

Meanwhile, as spring practice nears, the Buffs face a new setback. While new players join the team, some familiar faces are heading for the exit. Shilo Sanders might lose a safety in the defensive backfield.

The latest reports indicate that safety Myles Slusher plans to enter the transfer portal on April 15, leaving the team with two years of eligibility unused.

The safety followed Coach Prime to Colorado and had a tough, injury-ridden season. Despite this, he still managed 17 tackles, a PDU, and a sack in just four games for the Buffs. He made a crucial play in Colorado’s opening game victory against TCU, stopping them on fourth down. The strong safety came to Colorado along with teammate Jordan Domineck, a potential NFL prospect now. Thus, it creates a huge gap in the Buffaloes’ defense before their Spring Game.

The Buffs’ defense is lacking depth, even with Shilo

Colorado Buffaloes’ defense faces a serious depth crisis after losing Myles Slusher. Moreover, they’ve also seen key players at both safety (Jahquez Robinson) and cornerback (Kyndrich Breedlove) enter the transfer portal. The team is scrambling to fill these gaps, leaving their defense dangerously thin. For now, Preston Hodge and Shilo Sanders are likely the starters, with Omarion Cooper potentially shifting from cornerback to help fill the gap. Thus, defensive coordinator Robert Livingston will face a big challenge rebuilding the Buffs’ defense.

Thus, the team’s hopes may rest on the offense. Star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver Travis Hunter are potentially the iconic duo that can save the Buffs. Also, with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur guiding them, the offense could be Colorado’s strength. With all their strengths and weaknesses, the new Buffs will be a team to watch this season.
