Jim Harbaugh, taking over the Chargers‘ head coaching job, means different things to different people. On one hand, the die-hard Chargers fans look up to him as the beacon of hope that would bring home the Super Bowl after consecutively disappointing seasons from former head coaches. While the others opine that he belongs to the same circle.

First Things First’s host Nick Wright belongs to the latter group, where he does believe in Jim Harbaugh, even appreciates him, but is reserved when it comes to the Chargers going into the playoffs. Jim Harbaugh’s Super Bowl dream is the hottest public affair in the world of the NFL. There is an unsettled Super Bowl rivalry between him and his brother John Harbaugh, along with his unadorned Super Bowl dream since 2012. All these things have made Harbaugh the next Super Bowl hero, but Wright has a straight-up question: Are Harbaugh’s statements too tough to be achieved by the team and by him in the first year? “The Chiefs have more playoff wins in the last 3 weeks than the Chargers have in the last 15 years,” said Wright, straight forward stating there are a lot of NFL Giants with years of experience and Super Bowl-winning head coaches that Harbaugh had to compete with before making it to the playoffs.

“I think they are more likely to never win the division than they are to win a Super Bowl. Much less multiple goals” were the incinerating words of Wright. They were enough to hurl a mock right on Jim Harbaugh’s aspiration of winning ‘multiple, multiple championships’, which he expressed during his introductory press conference.

Since the last 5 years, the Chargers have not once entered the playoff round. Well, they did get a shot at it through a wild card appearance in 2022 but couldn’t make it. Well, much of it can be credited to the lack of NFL experience in their past head coaches. Chargers past 3 head coaches, Anthony Lynn, Brandon Staley, and Giff Smith did not possess head coaching experience for NFL teams before joining Chargers. This is also one reason why Dean Spanos appeared relieved at Harbaugh’s introductory press conference, explaining the breaking-the-bank offer for Jim Harbaugh.

Jim Harbaugh’s contract with the Chargers

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported Jim Harbaugh’s contract with the Chargers being a five-year, $80 million deal, averaging his yearly annum rates to $16 million. This is an enormous fourfold increase from that of the previous coach Brandon Staley.

Along with this, Spanos is also letting Harbaugh assemble a team of his preference, all of whom also come with a hefty price. However, looking at the stir Harbaugh created, along with, of course, his past with the 49ers in the NFL who appeared in the Super Bowl under Jim Harbaugh’s era, fans believe Spanos’ family made the right decision.
