This is today’s dose of Deion Sanders vs. the internet! The outspoken head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes is no stranger to controversy, as every word he utters seems to spark equal parts praise and criticism online.
This July, the release of EA Sports’ College Football 25 player ratings created a stir, especially within the Buffaloes camp. While both star players, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way threat Travis Hunter, secured spots within the Top 20, Coach Prime wasn’t happy as they didn’t crack some coveted ratings.
Meanwhile, at the SEC conference, things are taking a different tone. Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck joined his coach, Kirby Smart, and teammates for their media days in Dallas this week. Beck showcased a surprisingly mature outlook when asked about his EA Sports ratings. “So yeah, I haven’t gotten to play it. But obviously it’s a video game… rate me wherever you want and I’m just going to go do the real thing in real life. I’m not really too worried about a video game,” Beck said. Well, Beck is ranked #18 overall and #2 QB, just below Shedeur Sanders, the #1 QB and #17 top player. However, with a solid 93 rating, he’s tying with Shedeur’s ratings.

This 21-year-old signal-caller also boasts impressive stats — throwing for almost 4,000 yards last season and leading his Bulldogs to a stellar 13-1 season. It looks like his composure and work speak volumes. But the internet never rests! Now, Beck’s mature response is compared to Coach Prime’s earlier rants about the Buffaloes’ ratings. Some online users are ready to drag Coach Prime through the mud.
The internet schools Deion Sanders over a young QB’s comments
During the Big 12 media day, Deion Sanders questioned the EA Sports rankings: “I don’t know about that stuff. I’m just trying to figure how Shedeur can be tied with another person. How did that happen?” While Shedeur landed the #1 quarterback spot, Coach Prime seemed more concerned with the tie situation. Thus, Beck’s contrasting, chill approach lit a fire on the internet! Fans saw it as the perfect way to “troll” Coach Prime, with comments — like “Someone tell Deion Sanders this is how you answer questions about your rating in a video game” — flooding social media.

But Deion’s rants didn’t stop there. He also took issue with two-way star Travis Hunter’s 95 overall rating (ranked 6th). “How can Travis not have the highest score on the game when he’s arguably the best receiver and the best defensive back in college football?” he demanded, insisting Hunter deserved a perfect 99. More online criticism followed, with comments like “@DeionSanders be humble” and speaking head emojis “🗣️🗣️🗣️” from one user poking fun at his outspoken nature. An X user even wrote, “Checkmate Prime,” sarcastically jabbing Deion.
Now, not just Deion but Shedeur, too, has joined the chorus of dissatisfaction, stating he’s “not really a tie guy” and would prefer a clear #1 or #2 spot. While questioning a surprising snub is understandable, Sanders’ focus on a “tie” fuels the online fire.
