The rumors of Caleb Williams being the top pick in the 2024 NFL draft haven’t even properly fizzled out as the buzz around the top QB for the 2025 draft has already started picking up pace. Georgia QB Carson Beck is the one riding high on the waves of it. The initial opinions of draft scouts and NFL gurus have already started rolling in. Safe to say, Beck is emerging as a hot favorite among his competitors. Colin Cowherd’s dismissive, “I don’t think he’s a top-five pick,” prediction might beg to differ. The positive words coming in for Beck right from the top NFL scouts, however, are easily overpowering Cowherd’s opinion.
It was not just Carson Beck’s throws that enchanted the masses at Athens. Beck finished the 2023 season, a full season of starting, with a top-5 QB rating of 86.0 per ESPN. This year, Beck is expected to unfold even bigger surprises. A veteran SEC defensive coordinator thinks, ” [Carson Beck] will be the no. 1 overall pick.” Beck’s quick run and an even quicker release show his decisiveness and accurate anticipation, a major green flag for the NFL scouts. Even Jordan Reid calls Beck the No.1 pick in his way-too-early 2025 NFL mock draft.
Another selling point for the veteran was Carson Beck’s intelligence. “He’s one of the few quarterbacks who doesn’t look to the sidelines all the time,” the veteran said. The praises of Beck’s quick deliveries and clean throws weren’t just limited to this veteran, though. A top-25 teams’ DC agreed in unison with the views. His praises sang, “He’s got that prototypical first-round QB look to him.” Rightfully so, thanks to his command over the deep ball. In all aspects: size, accuracy, accuracy on the deep ball, it all spotlights when Beck plays.

For this DC, Beck might be even better than last season’s Heisman Championship. “I think he throws a better deep ball than Jayden Daniels,” he said without taking a beat. Speaking of Heisman, the prediction is enough to further cement Beck as the top contender for the Heisman Championship this season. ESPN has ranked the QB a top prospect for Heisman this season too.

As the leading pass runner of college football, Beck carries the presence of someone who expects to be great. “It’s his fifth season in Athens and if he can improve even a little on his numbers — 3,941 yards, 24 TDs, 6 INTs, 72% completion — from a year ago on a CFP team, it’ll be impossible to keep him out of New York in December,” Ryan McGee of ESPN says. With the promise Beck is bringing to the table this season as a top draft pick, he is expected to bridge the gap smoothly.
Along with this, he also has the perfect chance to bring Kirby Smart and Co. to the top of the CFB this season. There would be competitors, sure, but Beck, being the one with the most experience, is expected to put his all in. For the NFL, his mobility might be a drawback, but as long as he gets the job done, NFL teams are not expected to be too critical of him.
