Cam Ward's NFL Draft move—brave or premature? What do you think?

Cam Ward seems all set for the 2025 NFL Draft. After transferring from Washington State to Miami, he declared for the NFL draft amidst a dilemma. Last year, he was projected to be a late 3rd round pick or a 4th round pick. Thus, the quarterback continued his CFB journey, aiming to prove more. Now, his core intention is to achieve greatness at the Power Five level.

Ward explained his thought process on the July 30th podcast with Shedeur Sanders and Kyron Drone. He said, “When I was going through it, I was ready to be done college like just because in the aspect of I threw a lot of touchdown yards all that. But I played at the level I said I wanted to do. I went from the FCS to the power-five, a lot of people don’t do that.”

Most players go from big-time schools to smaller ones, but Ward did the opposite. He played two seasons at Washington State, starting all 25 games and throwing for nearly 7,000 yards. Last December, he visited Miami and Florida State before deciding not to rush his NFL decision. It was like one day he wanted the NFL, and the next day he wanted to play college football at Miami.

Now, Cam is all in on the NFL. Shedeur Sanders, sitting next to him, said, “Thank you for listening to your partners, bro.” He praised Ward’s bold move, calling it the “best decision.” It seems like Ward has finally figured things out and looks more positive.

Cam Ward aims for green room during draft day

Cam Ward’s stock is gradually rising. Ever since transferring to a powerhouse like Miami, experts are starting to see him as a potential first or second-round pick. CBS Sports even said he could go as high as number 12 overall. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders is also in the mix, predicted to go number nine.

Have an interesting take?

While Ward is excited, he knows he has to prove himself. He wants to be in the NFL Draft green room with his QB pals Shedeur and Virginia Tech’s Kyron Drones next year. Speaking at ACC Media Days, Ward said, “We haven’t said that to each other, but I know we all think it. At the end of the day, I feel like we can all put ourselves in the best position to be first-round picks, be top-three-round picks.”

He knows they all have to play well to make this dream a reality. And of course, Ward is not far behind the race with his 65% pass completion rate. He thus confidently added, “To get to that position we’ve all got to make plays. So hopefully come April all three of us are in that green room. If not, I’m pretty sure one day we will be.” Now, it’s clear these three quarterbacks are setting their sights high for next year.
