Is Paul Finebaum underestimating Deion Sanders' potential, or is Cam Newton just being overly optimistic?

Cam Newton did not hold back on blasting Paul Finebaum. After what he had to say about Deion Sanders and his son, no one was hesitant about calling him out either. But who’s to blame? Finebaum did not hold back on bombing Deion Sanders’ and his program too, belittling them with things like “irrelevant in the bigger picture” and “not sure that Deion Sanders could get them to the playoffs because he doesn’t have the patience to stay at Colorado”, even taking it to the extent of saying that “Colorado is nothing”. Now, as the analysts scrape his logic with every argument they could muster up, Finebaum can only take all the criticism. One of them, who did not go easy on Finebaum, was the 4th & 1 host, Cam Newton.

It’s a motherf***ing lie,” bluntly asserted Newton, almost as if calling off Finebaum’s claims as a fluke on his July 25 episode of the 4th & 1. “You can’t name me another more relevant program than Colorado than any other team right now,” Newton challenged the SEC analyst, giving Colorado the title of ‘Mount Rushmore of College Football’. If there were still any semblances of doubt, Newton put it out there, loud and clear for Finebaum.

“Ain’t nobody running to motherf***ing see them teams more than they going to try to see Shedeur, Shiloh, Travis Hunter, Prime than Colorado. So hold on Paul, watch your words. There you go, because even though you trying, I see what you tried to do, but you tried it. No chewing gum,” Newton said, dismissing the words of Finebaum altogether just by reminding him of the insanely massive viewership Colorado has garnered in its ‘losing’ 2023 season.

Colorado’s staggering numbers are enough to put Paul Finebaum’s claims to shame.

Newton’s not wrong. ‘Baffling’ would be an understatement for the viewership Colorado has garnered in the 2023 season. Not only did their clash against Oregon get over 10 million viewers in 2023, the ‘most-watched late-night college football game ever’ per ESPN, on average, Colorado drew about 8.83 million viewers across Fox, ESPN, and ABC.

Most of the games of Colorado, even when the program was going downhill, had a viewership of millions last season. Colorado State at Colorado: 9.3 million, USC-Colorado: 7,24 million, and more were just teasers of what Colorado could unlock once they get that winning record.

Just like last season, the Colorado tickets for this season are sold out too. They flew off the shelves, both online and offline, in minutes. Now, with the solid roster Deion Sanders and Co. have built this season, even if they don’t make it to the playoffs by some chance and just end up with a winning record unlike last season, these numbers will easily skyrocket further, putting the past records of viewership to shame. So, the claims of Paul Finebaum of Colorado ‘being nothing’ and ‘being irrelevant in the bigger picture‘ are no good.
