Another controversy in good old Boulder? Who would’ve guessed? Though this time they seemed to be on the right side of things, Deion Sanders and his team keep fighting social media wars before it’s even time to step onto the gridiron. Though the fans are usually attacking the Buffs, they sure have taken to defend the program this time.

On the 30th of May, Philip Vigil, the HC for CSU Pueblo, alleged that the Buffaloes have been tampering with players in the transfer portal and flipping their commitment. Though Deion himself wasn’t called out, Vigil tagged his assistant coach, Devin Rispess, who was the supposed mastermind of the malpractice. Not even 24 hours later, Ripress came out with his own comment that said, “yall bееn catfishеd wrong guy brothеr,” and proved Vigil’s claims wrong. Now, the fans are lashing out at the Pueblo coach and demanding him to eat his words as repentance.

Just a day later, on 31st May, Vigil ended up retracting his tweet and issuing a statement, which didn’t seem to have either of the words, “sorry” or “apologies” in it. His tweet read as, “College athletics are changing rapidly, and it is my job to support my players and our program. I have removed my social media post to allow the NCAA to address this situation and similar behaviors in college athletics.”

Vigil deleted the original tweet and issued this one later to address the situation, which just comes off as ambiguous since he doesn’t seem to be resentful of his actions at all. This fan replied to his tweet writing, “Dude got seriously catfished. Should have called Rispess to verify. And now he needs to call him and apologize.” What were intended to be strong allegations have been verified to be nothing but a catfish by a person who was just pretending to be a Rispess impersonator. Now, Vigil is facing more heat than ever from the fans who are demanding an apology from him. What followed more was a string of hate towards the CSU coach, something which will follow him for a long time yet to come.

The fans react harshly to Vigil’s latest tweet

We don’t often get to see the online community coming together in order to defend the Colorado Buffaloes’ honor, but with Vigil’s mistake in judgment, maybe this could be the start of a newfound support that the program has been lacking for so long. With all that said, here’s how Vigil is being cooked online with the constant trolling.

This user wrote, “That…or you jumped the gun and embarrassed yourself, your school & unfortunately that young man & now your scrambling more than a Waffle House.” Thus, Vigil’s decision to go after the Colorado program has disastrously failed as the hate just keeps on piling up against him.

Next, this fan took great offense to Vigil’s usage of “similar behaviors” in his tweet and retaliated in response by writing, “Similar Behaviors” meaning, Coaches who can’t control the envy and hate they feel when they see @DeionSanders and people that look like him accomplish astronomical accomplishments, while spreading the lords word? Or Kids creating fake texts? Which behaviors sir?

In one tweet, this person demeaned the entirety of the team, and all because Vigil chose to go after one of the most popular teams in the NCAA. This tweet read, “My brotha in Christ. Ain’t no one who is seriously sought after by CU give a damn about CSU Pueblo 😭😭😭”

Lastly, this man blamed Vigil for his downfall since he chose to make an allegation so evidently public, without trying to verify it once. He also commented on the team’s faith in Vigil as a coach and wrote, “Address the situation that you created? Really strong man you’ve got leading your team @CSUPueblo”

Thus, it doesn’t look like the fire is going to die out anytime soon outside of Vigil’s doorstep and maybe this would serve as a lesson to not spread fake unconfirmed allegations that could very well tarnish the reputation of a reputed football program.
