Hardly any other American sport sells hope as finely wrapped as the NFL. The pro league’s business model does not just capitalize on selling hopes to the tumbling teams’ fans that their teams will make it this season. But the fans aren’t the only ones hoping, the players on the gridiron are as well. And about to join the ranks of the hopefuls is Caleb Williams, whose journey to greatness began when he was just 10 years old.

The boy who grew up to be dubbed as the next Patrick Mahomes at the age of just 20 years is now at the NFL draft as a potential #1 pick, and here’s how he got there.

In his recent GQ profile, Caleb Williams unveiled the making of the projected No. 1 QB of the 2024 NFL draft. The architect of it all: his father, Carn Williams. The little Williams kicked off his football career by playing running back and linebacker. But one loss was all it took for Williams to realize his potential. At the tender age of 10, Williams was soaking up his loss, sitting on a bench alone, crying and reconsidering his decisions. “A 10-year-old Caleb Williams was crying,” reported SheKnowsSports.

“In that moment he decided the only way for him to avoid losing like that again was for him to take control of the team under Center,” SheGotSports reported. It was the only tip-off Carn Williams required for everything in his power to make Williams the best QB who ever played in the NFL. That night, Caleb Williams had one commitment to make to his father and himself.

“If I’m going to play quarterback, I want to be the greatest quarterback who ever played the game”, hearing his son’s serious words, Carl alongside his two friends who were youth football coaches in the area, created a plan to make 10-year-old Caleb the greatest quarterback possible. The process is hardly ever easy.

Hence, the drill started. Caleb woke up before the sun rose to do his big boy QB workouts before going to school, followed by flying across the country to work with the best QB trainers across the Nation. He walked and talked with a purpose driving his mind: to become the best QB ever. So much so that he was not even sleeping in a room warmer than 68° to help speed up his recovery. “Everything was meticulously planned out. Everything Caleb did was for a reason,” Lauren from SheGotSports reported.

By the time Williams entered high school, he was already undergoing media training. His parents’ dedication to Williams’ cause was equally committed. Just because Williams could save time in his commute to college, Williams’ family reallocated to a location in the Gonzaga College High School’s neighborhood.

And of course, how can we forget the monumental 2022 Heisman Trophy winner? So, what do you think of the forging process it took to make Caleb Williams considered one of the best QBs across the Nation?
