The talk of the NFL town is all about Caleb Williams joining the Bears. Well, most of it. The ones picking the other side of the debate are busy advocating why joining the Bears would not turn out to be a favorable decision for Caleb Williams’ future. Just like the two sides of a coin, conversations around it have been flaring up in the shadows amidst the limelight ‘Bears to draft Caleb Williams’ has created.
Given the command Williams possesses over the ball, he should pull an “Eli” in the draft, per the Real Telly. Pulling an Eli in the draft means refraining from joining certain cities, the sugarcoated term for certain teams, something that Eli Manning became popular for in the 2004 NFL draft. Chicago Football Connection extends the opinion by adding its take. Per them, Williams’ career “would have been saved” if he had chosen an “elite organization”.

The Chicago Bears were the most efficient and easiest pick Williams could have gone for. Does it take the thrill out of the equation? Sure, look at JJ McCarthy’s draft, it’s a frenzy market. If Williams decides to pull an Eli, that market would tick off even more hysteria. Even Cam Newton displayed his unanimous agreement with Williams pulling an Eli.
His rationale behind it? Caleb Williams has to play multiple roles for the Bears. “Where you are now thrust into a CEO role, where you have to manage the owner, off-field general manager, head coach position, coach, and players. That’s a tall order. That’s not to say he can’t do it, but he must understand what he’s getting himself into,” Newton said on the Smitty’s Sports Mac. Hence, Williams would be flushed with responsibilities once he enters the Bears building as their QB. Yet, looking at all the green signals from around the NFL world, Williams and the Bears almost look like a done deal.
