Looking at the prospects entering the NFL Draft this year, USC quarterback Caleb Williams is the favorite to land as the No. 1 overall pick. However, interesting opinions are afloat after Deion Sanders’ recent revelation on the position his quarterback son would have secured if he had entered this year’s draft.
According to Deion Sanders’ statement on BuffsTV, “If Shedeur would’ve gone in the draft this year, he probably would have been the second. He wouldn’t have been the first quarterback off the board I think. He has the ability but he probably would have been the second quarterback off the board.” His claims became a gateway for discussion among former stars, including an NBA MVP who touted Shedeur Sanders as a possible No. 1 pick even if he were to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

In a recent YouTube Undisputed Today upload, Skip Bayless, Keyshawn Johnson, and Paul Pierce reacted to Deion Sanders’ claims that Shedeur Sanders would’ve been the second QB off the board if he entered the 2024 NFL Draft this year. While Johnson opined that the Buffs QB could have been among the Top 3 if he were to join, the NBA champion believed that Shedeur Sanders was the better QB than Caleb Williams, who was highly praised as the No. 1 QB to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
Paul Pierce compared the two quarterbacks from the September game in which Colorado played against USC at Folsom Field. While he acknowledged Williams’ abilities and talents as a QB, he also said, “Just looking at the eye test, I thought [Shedeur] was the best player on the field. I looked at both the QBs and he showed me he had a strong arm. This was my 1st time seeing Caleb also… Shedeur looked like a pro QB already.”
Lauding Shedeur Sanders’ performance in the second half of the game, Pierce couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with what the 22-year-old could achieve. He said, “What I saw especially in the 2nd half of the Colorado game, I gotta take Shedeur in this one…”
Shedeur Sanders had previously made it clear that he won’t be leaving his dad’s side this year. But he also believed that he was the best QB in this year’s draft. In an interview before the Super Bowl LVIII, he mentioned, “I’m biased. But, I don’t see a QB that’s better than me. I don’t see a quarterback that went through as much adversity as me, that had in four seasons… A lot of people don’t understand, that’s a lot more adversity than you think, just even being the son of Deion Sanders. You put any of those guys in my situation, they are not doing it.”

With just 1:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Buffs scored a TD with a failed onside kick, ultimately yielding the victory to Caleb Williams and Co. Nonetheless, Shedeur Sanders completed 30 of 45 passes with 50 rushing yards and a score. He recorded 371 yards, 262 coming in the second half and four TDs. This incredible feat by Shedeur Sanders remains etched in the memories of every spectator, as he still has a fiery potential that can yet be released.
