Caleb Williams turned out to be the top pick of the NFL draft as expected. However, there were many concerns regarding his selection, as many experts believed that he wouldn’t be able to replicate his performance for the Trojans at the NFL level. Nonetheless, the Bears and Williams had other ideas. It is clear that both parties have confidence and great hope in each other.

Riding on his confidence from college football, Williams has clarified his intentions and expectations from the NFL as he attempts to pursue the legendary career of Tom Brady. However, he has leveled up the ante by claiming to become immortal in football, drawing skepticism from experts.

Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes discussed Caleb Williams on their recent episode of their podcast, First Things First. While discussing Caleb Williams, Broussard mentioned the issue with him and his expectations as Williams desires to be as great as Tom Brady. He said, “I think he will live up to our expectations, pundits’ expectations. We talking about this year, right? I think we will have a good rookie year. He could definitely be rookie of the year. I don’t think he will live up to his own expectations.

In his defense, Broussard then explained the rationale behind his statement. He narrates that Williams has played in the Pac-12 and not in the NFL yet. The level of gameplay in the two leagues is way too different. Hence, making such claims is not ideal for such a young talent. Broussard then made a sarcastic comment on Williams as he questions, “Who was the last great QB to come out of USC?

Although Broussard’s comments were sarcastic, there have been quite a few notable names, including Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Mark Sanchez. Broussard’s comments on Williams are valid since the USC Trojans star won the Heisman Trophy but couldn’t lead his side to a Pac-12 or national championship. Hence, the former USC Trojans star would want to change his fortune after joining the Chicago Bears.

The #1 draft pick of the year earlier wanted to be like Tom Brady, but then raised his expectations to achieve immortality in sports. He says, “My last goal is immortality. The only way to reach that is winning championships. That’s big for me and something that is the reason I play the game. I’m excited.

But Williams’ ambitions could be lofty aims, as former QBs and first-round picks Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields could never achieve the same with the Bears. However, Williams isn’t worried about it as he believes that the Bears haven’t been able to put the right people in the right positions. But this year, he would like to change it.
