Deion Sanders has faced criticism for losing many players to the transfer portal, but the departure of top cornerback recruit Cormani McClain had the biggest impact. McClain left the team, stating, “I feel like I just don’t want to play for clicks” and expressing dissatisfaction with Deion’s program.

While it sparked a backlash against Deion, it also backfired for Cormani, as many teams became hesitant to take him due to concerns about his maturity. Despite this setback, McClain is exploring new opportunities in the transfer portal and has been touring Florida. However, it seems Deion’s past criticisms of McClain’s commitment are coming back to haunt the young player.

Cormani McClain recently visited Florida with his mother and agent, meeting with the team’s coaching staff. Finally, the Florida native got a new chance to shine and fulfill his high school potential with the Gators. Despite this opportunity, concerns remain about McClain’s work ethic because of his actions on Deion Sanders’ team. Brandon Olsen expressed skepticism on X, stating, “If Cormani McClain is a Gator then he’s a Gator but I’m not going to pretend to be optimistic about him working out. Was very raw coming out of HS and needs a ton of refinement to be successful, where he hasn’t shown the willingness to put in the work. Struggled a TON on the field with Colorado too.”

Olsen continued, “If he walks on and puts in the work then great but more often than not the high ranking recruit that doesn’t work hard will burn out.” Thus, even as the second-ranked available transfer prospect, McClain’s past behavior raises red flags about his future performance.

Deion Sanders’ words haunt McClain: can he move past?

Now, Cormani McClain’s actions, not just his words, raise some serious concerns. He skipped his high school signing ceremony and reportedly backed out of several verbal commitments before choosing Deion Sanders’ team. He missed out on learning from the legendary cornerback and skipped practices while at Colorado, drawing Deion Sanders’ ire. Deion’s criticism, urging Cormani to “Study, prepare….show up to darn meetings,” might influence other teams’ decisions.

Some speculate McClain was jealous of Deion’s favorites like Shilo, Shedeur, and Travis Hunter, contributing to his behavioral issues. However, it seems the Florida Gators aren’t deterred by his past. They believe in his talent and might see him as a valuable addition to their secondary. If the Gators secure him, he could be a significant asset, strengthening their defense. However, it remains to be seen whether McClain will seize this opportunity for redemption.
