The Florida Gators head coach, Billy Napier, found himself in hot water after Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jaden Rashada filed a lawsuit against him. The lawsuit accuses Napier, besides a team booster and former staffer, of promising a fake NIL deal to Rashada. Initially, Rashada agreed to a $9.5 million NIL deal with the Miami Hurricanes. However, he was swayed to join the Gators by Napier’s team, who allegedly offered a massive $13.85 million over four years. In addition, Napier personally assured Rashada’s father of a $1 million partial payment upon signing.
Unfortunately, none of these promised millions were ever awarded to Rashada, who only received $150,000 to repay a Miami booster. Feeling deceived, Rashada withdrew his intent to play for Florida. Now, the commentators might also have something to say about this severe NCAA violation.

A recent video from Crain & Company analyzed the situation, with the host asserting that this could be an opportunity for Florida to terminate Napier’s contract. Blain Crain, visibly angry with Napier, said, “I think it’s good for Florida. I think this opens the door for you to fire Billy Napier in the upcoming games.“ He didn’t hold back, adding, “I think Billy Napier is cooked.” He also highlighted the lack of signed contracts, emphasizing the “he said, she said“ nature of the situation.
According to the complaint, Jaden Rashada signed a $9.5 million NIL deal with Miami booster John Ruiz.

“But they do have a phone call of Billy Napier talking to this kid’s father saying that when he signs on signing day, he will get what a million. Yeah, because he’s not signed on anything, they wouldn’t have brought it up if they really didn’t have anything on him,” the host reasoned. “They brought that phone call up, but I do think, is this bad for Billy? Sure. Is this bad for business right now for Florida? Sure.”
His brother Jake Crain noted that the lawsuit doesn’t really blame the Florida Gators team but focused on Napier. Blain added to the situation, stating, “I don’t think Billy Napier should be the head coach of Florida… From Florida organization standpoint, I think it is great for y’all.” This advice to terminate Napier seems reasonable at all points.

Billy Napier’s disappointing Jaden Rashada is just one of his problems. This setback, along with the team’s lower win ratio and a demanding schedule next year, has put a lot of pressure on Napier. The last time the Gators won a title was in 2008, their current prospects didn’t look promising. Notably, the lawsuit further complicates matters for Napier, as it could damage his reputation and affect recruiting efforts. However, there’s a glimmer of hope for Napier since nothing he promised Rashada was in writing.
Despite this, the lawsuit’s negative publicity is a major concern for the Gators as such. Even if Napier wins the legal battle, the damage to his and the program’s image could last long. Jake Crain even expressed his concern about its impact on current and future players, as well as potential donors. Thus, both Crain brothers believe that for the sake of the Gators, it might be best for Napier to step down as head coach.
