Cormani McClain staying with the Gators—Is this the boost Florida needs to dominate this season?

Cormani McClain is not booted! After locking horns with Deion Sanders in Colorado for his behavioral issues, he became easy prey for slander as far as discipline is concerned. Just a month after getting a new home in Florida, trouble began with complaints that he hadn’t been punctual for meetings and training.

Rumors soared so high that it reached a point where some sources even claimed McClain had been “kicked out” from Florida football. This further gave birth to many speculations with some people defending him. But after the school’s official announcement, we’re throwing the worst assumptions about the elite CB to the back seat!

Cormani McClain’s “kicked out” rumor is put to rest with the school’s announcement of his jersey number for the season. When he was in Colorado last season, he rocked the No. 1 jersey. And now, he’s got a new number. According to an X post by Florida Gators on July 28, “Colorado transfer Cormani McClain will wear #25 for Florida this year.”

The former 5-star CB entered the transfer portal this spring after a troubled episode in Boulder with Deion Sanders who called out his lack of accountability. It’s a major reason why an elite player like him remained in the portal longer than he should’ve been as teams were wary of signing him. He finally joined the Gators as a preferred walk-on, but it took only one month for rumors to surface again about him giving his new teammates and coaches a hard time by turning up late for practices. Fortunately, not everyone is brainwashed enough to swallow and digest the rumors.

After the rumor about him being kicked out surfaced, Coach Billy Napier shut down the false narrative during his appearance at SEC Media Days. He said, “He’s doing fine. A lot of this gets blown out of proportion. He’s a young player. Obviously, we’re well aware of his history.” McClain even received support from Colorado figures who didn’t accept the rumor about him being kicked out.

Have an interesting take?

Ryan Koenigsberg defended McClain on July 23’s DNVR podcast saying, “I think he’s suspended. Don’t know that, I just think! People who are saying he’s off the team are kind of right. The coaches who are saying he’s not off the team are kind of right. I’ve seen this happen a million times with players who are kind of in a limbo state.” But now, the answer is clear, and hopefully, negativity will take a break from following the 20-year-old as he looks forward to his first season in Florida.
