Last Monday, the NFL world received one of the saddest news, as former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach passed away due to a heart condition. Since then, social media has flooded with messages and overwhelming love for the legendary college football coach. Kansas City Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, recently talked about his relationship with the late football coach. Moreover, he also told an interesting story involving the former President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Notably, Leach and Reid developed a great friendship over the years. When Reid was the coach of the Eagles, Leach visited him and they became really good friends.

He goes, ‘Oh yeah, I was walking through New York. I saw the tower. Went up, introduced myself to him.’ Like it was no big deal. He talked himself through. Donald had security back then too. He talked himself through that, and then Donald found him, that kind of person out. He was just a unique, unique guy. And that’s the way he coached. And that’s why everybody loved him, for that,” Reid further told the reporters on Wednesday.

Notably, Mahomes also played for Texas Tech, where he broke plenty of records. Although he never met coach Leach in person, he felt like he learned a lot from him indirectly. It is worth noting that the current head coach of the Cardinals Kliff Kingsbury, was Leach’s student, and he became a coach because of his influence.

Mahomes also feels that a lot of coaches in the NFL borrow methods from coach Leach’s book during games. In 2000, Leach joined Texas Tech, where he developed the famous air raid offense, which became extremely successful in college football. Later, many coaches borrowed this tactic in the NFL as well. Safe to say, coach Leach’s legacy has become immortal even though he is not here anymore.
