On Sunday night, Caleb Williams made a move that had the Bears pouting. Williams took to his Instagram to share a picture of Kliff Kingsbury, the former offensive coordinator at USC, adorned in the Washington Commanders’ gear, with the caption, “My dawg congrats.” Surely, Williams was elated to find the coach who shaped him as the best QB in collegiate football, to land the same position at the Commanders.
Or was it just that? Imagine a situation where the Bears would not draft their most-predicted No.1 overall pick on 25th April. After Williams’ story, the air is loaded with speculations just about to rain on the Kliff Kingsbury-Caleb Williams reunion. That, and the Washington Commanders holding the No.2 pick overall in the NFL draft. And the chemistry Caleb Williams shares with Kingsbury from their time together at USC. And Kingsbury’s reputation as the ‘QB guru’ for his work with some of the most efficient passers in the league, like Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Kyler Murray. All of this, paired with Caleb Williams being the No. 1 draft prospect of the class of 2024.

For this to happen, the Bears would have to draft Jayden Daniels at No.1, as Cynthia Frelund from the NFL proposed. “I actually think that the Bears should take him at Number 1,” Cynthia said. “I think a lot of these QB-to-team situations are best done when you have more people there to support the player,” Cynthia explained to the NFL. “And this would be the most supportive move you could possibly make. They obviously know how to work together. They had success at USC,” Cynthia elaborated further.
Riley from Good Morning Football agreed solidarily while expressing his dream situation. “In a perfect world would I love a reunion for them? That would be great. But we all know a lot would transpire between now and the draft,” said Riley. The reunion does sound straight out of a fairytale. Kliff Kingsbury, however, has hardly exposed any of his wants from the draft pick or the roster requirements until now.

What does Kliff Kingsbury’s silence on Caleb Williams mean?
Since Kingsbury has just joined the Commanders, he is not ready to “break down” Caleb Williams as a developing QB. “I don’t want to break him down right now. I’m still trying to evaluate our own roster and go through that. I mentioned I loved being around him—a tremendous person. I had fun at USC,” Kingsbury said on Wednesday during his introductory press conference.

Kliff Kingsbury has a tough choice to make. He can either trade up with the Chicago Bears to pick Caleb Williams at No. 1, or he can pick one from the Commanders’ predicted picks like JJ McCarthy, Jayden Daniels, or Drake Maye. Yet, several experts opine that Kingsbury could potentially capitalize on the relationship he fostered with Caleb Williams at USC. The QB thrived there under his guidance for a year. The possibility of drafting the No.1 pick would surely be something that Kliff Kingsbury would not take lightly.
