Alabama Crimson Tide has been one of the most cherished teams in the history of the NCAA. On Saturday, the Crimson Tide proved why yet again. Or maybe it is just something in the Jordan-Hare Stadium, with Auburn and Alabama playing on it, chasing the Iron Bowl, that creates moments to be remembered by posterity.
The stories of Alabama vs. Auburn are many, but on Sunday, fans fondly remembered the game that took place at the same place, exactly 10 years back. Chris Davis’s returned missed 109 yards kick gave Auburn their game-winning touchdown as time expired against Alabama. And Isaiah Bond revenged it for the Crimson Tide on Sunday, scoring the magnificent TD catch from QB Milroe.

The world witnessed in awe the once-in-a-decade catch. Just when the Alabama fans were just about the give up their hopes, when a little Milroe-Bond magic took place. With a mere 37 seconds left on the clock, Milroe passed down the ball right in the hands of Isaish Bond in the end-zone, etching the fourth-and-31 throw in the pages of the history of the franchise. However, Coach Saban and his players chose to stay pretty composed with reaction “We actually practice that play every Friday when we do walk through when we do special situations.”

Pat McAfee was in an uproar when he said, “Are you kidding me? We saw your reaction on a sideline.” Well, Saban could not deny that given the storm of emotions, the catch had stirred in fans and analysts alike. “It was a great play, no doubt,” commented Saban. “It’s going to be one that’s historical in terms of people remembering.” Sure enough, with two defenders on their trail, and all eyes on him, Bond still managed to make the catch and make things in the team’s favor, making Saban proud.
Yet, this was not the first time Alabama confronted such a situation. In many of their previous games, Crimson Tide has stolen the win in the last seconds or has gotten their wins stolen in the last second. The Kick-Six, for instance, which McAfee was clever to bring up, where Auburn stole the show, among all the other times that Auburn has snatched the Victory from Tides. This not only fueled the team’s hopes for College Football Playoffs but also extended their winning streak to 4 against Auburn Tigers, with a streak of nine wins being the longest since 1973-1981.

The record did not just aid the team but also racked in individual records for many. First, Bond, for whom it was only his fourth touchdown of the season. Yet it could not have been at any better timing. Secondly, Saban, who already had a beaten record against Auburn as the Crimson Tide head coach. This win soothed the wound, pushing his record at 5-4 against Auburn and 12-5 overall against the Tigers. Safe to say the historic catch has ramped up fans’ hopes for the showdown against Georgia.
