Is Deion Sanders the future of college football, or is he just a flash in the pan?

“Deion exudes what the community needs” Looks like Paul Finebaum’s suggestions have reached the big leagues. Back on July 23rd, Finebaum went on to claim that Deion Sanders would be the perfect replacement for Lincoln Riley at the Trojans. This gave rise to the entire community losing their minds over which team Deion would decide to go for after moving on from Colorado. We all know at this point that the star players under Coach Prime, Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter, would be leaving for the NFL post-2024 season. So will Prime leave the Buffs and go somewhere else?

Well, former Cowboys and Sooners HC Barry Switzer has the perfect prediction. On July 27th, Switzer presented his take on OutKick’s Don’t @ Me. “He is going to try and establish himself there, but Deion is going to go what fits Deion,” Switzer said. As per Barry, Deion Sanders will probably decide to move on from CU post 2024. While he has denied and said that he would never coach the pros, Switzer thinks that this mindset will definitely change soon. However, the chances of this happening are probably quite low. Deion Sanders has been very vocal about how he prefers taking up teams that are not that established. He did it with Colorado. He took a team that had nothing to a $280 million dollar valuation in his first year and also managed to bring in his son and potential No.1 QB Shedeur Sanders on the team. Not only that, his charm also managed to pull in one of the best players in college football, Travis Hunter, to the team.

Back on July 24th, Keyshawn Johnson had also completely dismissed Finebaum’s claims. On Undisputed Live, Johnson explained, “It would be too much for them to surrender the athletic program to Deion Sanders.” The first rule of getting Deion on board would be to allow him to control the program completely. Which Colorado did and look what they have now. There is little to no shot that other teams would be willing to do the same. Also, Coach Prime already has a lot waiting for him here at the Buffs.

The future looks bright

NCAA increasing the total number of scholarships available in football is one of the biggest things that could happen for Colorado. With the total scholarship number increasing from 85 to 105, Deion Sanders would have plenty of room to get those new talents into the team. This would give the man a whole new purpose. With Shilo Sanders, Shedeur, and Travis leaving for the NFL next year, Deion would be able to stretch his wings and get some new players ready for the big leagues.

However, right now, we just gotta wait and watch. The 2024 season will be a blast for the Buffs with that new O-line and a massive increase in overall performance.
