The die is cast, and the line is crossed. JJ McCarthy has made the choice. With mere hours left for the 2024 NFL draft drama to unfold, JJ McCarthy let the cat out of the bag. In the talks to be the touted No. 2 pick, JJ McCarthy’s future draft team was subject to enigma since his draft stocks soared. The Commanders, who were planning on drafting Jayden Daniels, now pivoted towards McCarthy.

While Commanders were busy plotting away the best strategy for luring McCarthy in, the Vikings sat with a dejected face since this equaled to all their efforts of drafting JJ McCarthy, even getting in the talks of trading up to secure him going down the drain. Here’s when McCarthy decided to unveil the plot twist: his preference for purple jerseys over the red ones.

“It would be the world … Coach O’Connell. He’s a guy that I’d run through a brick wall for. Everything that he wants to do with a football team, is something I think want to be a part of,” McCarthy said to Adam Schefter when asked to give his two cents on Minnesota. The QB’s statement gives rise to wild speculation – McCarthy pulling an Eli Manning move to secure a future with coach Kevin O’Connell and Co.

However, he still has a serious contender standing strong against him, Drake Maye. Several analysts have predicted that if the Vikings trade up, which they are very likely to do, they might consider Drake Maye. Now, it all boils down to the availability of the QB at the position they might get a trade up to. Especially when O’Connell has already dropped a major hint surrounding the trade-up.

While the rumors have been around for quite some time, the fans only partially expected O’Connell and Co. to publically address their trade-up right before draft day. They were almost ready for a big bombshell to drop until O’Connell did it before the NFL.

While he hasn’t made any official revelation quite yet, he has dropped the ultimate hint about their trade partner. “I don’t know. I may or may not have sent a nice bouquet of flowers to Robert Kraft,” O’Connell confessed during his Faith and Life Lecture Series. While the Vikings have expressed their motto for trading up to draft a QB, preferably JJ McCarthy, they could still go for Drake Maye if they secure a trade with Robert Kraft at No.3.
